Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held at the Park
District Office, Main Road, Mattituck, New York with all
Commissioners, Edward Adams, Chairman, Gerard Goehringer, and
Walter Sabat present, together with John Cushman, Treasurer, and
Madeline Haas, Secretary.
Chairman Adams called the meeting to order.
On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat
and carried, the minutes of the April meeting were approved as
presented.
Correspondence: Letter from Mattituck Fire Department
requesting that they be able to keep the arch at the Veterans'
Memorial Park site seeing that the basketball courts will not
constructed at that site. The Fire Department officers would
like to meet with the Commissioners to evaluate the arch's
condition and will be willing to make any repairs necessary.

James Rambo wrote to ask permission to use the Yacht Club
Property to access the beach to install a bulkhead three houses
to the west for a Mr. Christman. Mr. Rambo enclosed a
Certificate of Liability Insurance naming Mattituck Park
District as an additional insured on his policy. So approved.
The Town of Southold will be using Veterans' Park beach for
swimming lessons from June 28, 1999 to July 9, 1999.
Word from John and Beth Dumblis suggesting the Park
District purchase the North Road Strawberry Festival Grounds as
a permanent fair ground site.
Mattituck Lions Club requested the Mattituck Park District
to mow the festival field on Route 48. Approved.
Letter from James H. Bergeron with co~mnents about the
basketball courts spoken about being erected at Veterans'
Memorial Park. He enclosed six pictures showing visual messes
at the Park site. Commissioners instructed Mr. Cox, the manager
of the parks, to level the dirt in the parking lot and not have
anymore put there. The dumpster was to be put over next to the
building. The pipes shown in Picture #3 are to be gotten rid
of.
Letter from Brewer Yacht Yard stating that Greenport Yacht
Yard and The Peconic Paddler are co-sponsoring a kayak race
Foundation. They would like to use Veterans Memorial Park as
the starting point for the short course from Mattituck to
Riverhead on July 17, 1999. They need to park 10 to 15 cars for
several hours. Race to start at 11:30 A.M. and should finish
about 3:00 P.M. Permission granted.
Mrs. Droscoski, the Park Beach and Life Guard Manager
attended the meeting. She reported the life guard will be on
duty for swimming lessons. She also inquired about ~Emergency
Action Plan" for Board of Health. Commissioners to work up
something before the season starts.
Mrs. Droscoski asked if buoys and mushroom anchors could be
put up to mark the swimming area 100 feet out. Commissioners
instructed Mr. Cox about the matter. Mr. Cox reported to Mrs.
Droscoski that he has all the supplies she needs.
Southold School wants to use Vet's Park for their picnic.
The Commissioners said Southold would have to have a sponsor
from Mattituck and get their own life guard at their expense and
liability insurance.
Chairman Adams reported receiving a telephone call from the
Audubon Society to notify the Park District that the Piping
Plover is nesting again at the Breakwater site.
Chamber of Commerce has asked about what up-grading the
Commissioners would like to see done at the Love Lane site. The
Chamber has applied for beautifying that area. Commissioners
said the bulkhead needs up-grading and also the approach to the
ramp. The roadway also needs to be leveled.
Chairman Adams reported he would be meeting with the
Mattituck School people and that there is a possibility that the
outside basketball court might go up at the Laurel School by
clearing out some of the woodland. Chairman Adams said the
lease between the Park District and Mattituck School District
has been signed.
On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat
and carried, a resolution authorizing the Amendment and
Restatement of the Municipal Cooperation Agreement made pursuant
to New York General Municipal Law, Article 5G, Section 119-0
Amended and Restated as of July 20, 1992 by and among
Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Education
Services and the other participants was approved.
Secretary instructed to write a letter to Mr. John
Harrison, Chairman of the Fire Commissioners thanking the
Commissioners for donating the conference table and 18 chairs to
the Park District.
On motion of Walter Sabat, seconded by Gerard Goehringer
and carried the following Treasurer's report was approved and
the following bills ordered paid.

On motion of Edward Adams, seconded by Gerard Goehringer
and unanimously approved, the following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck
Park District hereby aurhotizes and directs Treasurer John A.
Cushman to execute a tri-party collateral agreement between the
Mattituck Park District, North Fork Bank, and The Bank of New
York to secure deposits of the Mattituck Park District.
On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat
and unanimously carried, the following budget modification is

On motion of Walter Sabat, seconded by Gerard Goehringer,
and unanimously carried, Ernest Gaebrel was hired as a laborer
effective April 20, 1999 at $8.00 per hour.
Chairman Adams reported that Harry Charkow is working on a
limited basis at $10.00 per hour.
On motion of Gerard Goehringer, seconded by Walter Sabat
and carried, no further business to come before the meeting, the
meeting was adjourned.
