Monthly Report

Planted 150 shrubs (Bay Berry & Beach Plums) at the Bittner
Preserve, with two Land Preservation Committee volunteers.
??
Worked with Eagle Scout Candidate Alex Goerler and his team
planting 18,000 beach grass plants at the Bittner Preserve, as per
Land Preservation Committee plan developed by Maureen
Cullinane. Alex and his team did an excellent job.
??
On going trail maintenance on Laurel Lake, Downs Farm,
Arshamomaque, Arshamomaque Pond, Dam Pond and Mill Road
Preserves.
??
Met with 2 representatives from eDesign Dynamics to review the past
dredging plans of Goldsmith Inlet, in accordance with their proposal
to perform a review and issue a report in connection with the future
dredging of the Goldsmith Inlet.
??
Attended several meetings with Phillip Beltz in reference to the 2011
Community Development Block Grant program and 2011 budget.
??
Attended a meeting with the Maureen Cullinane of the Land
Preservation Committee, Jamie Richter and Curt Davies, Assistant
Highway Superintendent, in reference to the grading plan and
planting plan for the Bittner Preserve. The grading has been
completed.

The demolition of Southold Scavenger Waste Plant is moving along
and the contractor is doing an excellent job with the demolition and
removal of the buildings, vaults, etc. Several minor soil
contamination issues have been or are in the process of being
remediated. The sludge drying beds have been cleaned and are in
the process of being dismantled. Weather permitting; the project
should be completed in 2010.

Meeting with Construction Consultants, in reference to the
renovations of the Peconic Community Center. The contractor doing
the lead paint/asbestos abatement has been completed all of his tasks.
??
Once the asbestos was removed from the heating system, the DPW
staff removed the old furnace at the Peconic Community Center.
??
Attended a meeting with two staff members of the Peconic Land
Trust, in reference to the yearly monitoring of the Downs Farm
Preserve, as per the Conservation Easement, with PLT.
??
Attended an informational meeting with Bowne Management
Systems in reference to the Town’s GIS user needs.
??
Attended a meeting of the Executive Safety Committee.
??
On-going work with the Army Corps of Engineers in reference to the
Mattituck Inlet Dredging Project.
??
Renovations to the “Horse Barn” at the Highway Department, as a
DPW work area, that include better lighting, installation of new
garage doors, work benches and a small propane heater for heating
the work area is 100% completed.
??
Attended a meeting in reference to a punch list of items in need of
attention at the Animal Shelter and future items for discussion in
reference to the future Animal Shelter Contract.
??
The DPW is looking at the feasibility of the department staff saw
cutting the concrete and trenching for the installation of conduit
between the Highway Department Office and adjacent barn, as part
of the installation of the new fuel monitoring system.
