HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/22/2010 Southold Transportation Commission November 22, 2010 Meeting Attendance: Chairman Neb Brashich, Councilman Chris Talbot, Margaret Brown, Heather Lanza, Bob Feger, Jim Baker, Joel Reitman and Captain Flatley Meeting called order at 1005 hrs. with the approval of the September 27, 2010 minutes being accepted. EETC Update Heather reports that items discussed at their last meeting were the “Metropool” program and the “Complete Streets” concept. Both programs address options for reducing traffic concerns with the latter using the reconfiguring of traffic lanes to also safely accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians. This Complete Street concept has already been implemented in western Suffolk along Rt. 347. Heather also reports that there is a new Suffolk County Transit boss and that the Commission may have to re-apply for the remaining bus shelters due to the reorganization of the office. Neb stated he would inquire about the status of the shelters. New Comprehensive Plan for Town Heather reports that there are no new changes on the Plan as far as the Transportation Chapter, but the Economic Chapter of the Plan should be ready for public review in January, 2011. Supervisor’s Requests None to report. Planning Board Requests The only active project that the Planning Board is working on with new transportation issues is the new winery proposed for State Rt. 25 in Greenport adjacent to The Portly Grape restaurant. Heather reports that the NYS DOT is reviewing the traffic plan and that there is sufficient off-street parking to accommodate the project. Continuing Review of Streetlights Reduction Proposal Nothing new to report. Current Transportation Issues- Updates Southold/Greenport Bus Shelters- Neb to follow up on their whereabouts. Orientation/Interpretive Signage Project- RBA Phase II- Neb reports that the project is ready to go but they are still waiting for final approval of several government agencies and this is slowing the process. Harbes Family Winery, Mattituck - Heather reports that the Harbes’ are still in the planning process with the Town and they are currently evaluating the removal of a tree to make room for their proposed access roadway. Factory Avenue Traffic Issues, Mattituck- The roadway has been re-surfaced through the Highway Department and there is a significant improvement on the railroad crossing, Southold Transportation Commission which should reduce the noise of vehicles and trailers crossing same. Heather reports that the Mattituck Corridor Study is still working on planning for this area also. 7-11 Project, Mattituck- Heather reports that a revised traffic study has been submitted by the owner, but they still have some minor issued to resolve with Planning before the process is complete. Route 25, Mattituck- Town Study- Councilman Talbot reports that the Supervisor is discussing the creation of a Village park with the removal of Sound Avenue from Love Lane to Westphalia Rd, but the Board is still discussing the impact this removal would have on businesses to the west of the proposed site. A discussion ensued on possible improvements to the Rt.25 and Love Lane intersection to improve traffic and pedestrian safety. CR 48 & Intersection with Tucker’s Lane, Southold – Still no correspondence back from SCDPW on the Commission’s inquiry. Neb reports that he will try to re-contact. CR48 & Eastern Long Island Kampgrounds, Southold- Still no correspondence back from SCDPW on the Commission’s inquiry. Neb reports that he will try to re-contact. Old Business None. New Business Jody Adams in attendance at the meeting asked the Commission to form a subcommittee to study the local bus situation with the Suffolk County Transit. Ms. Adams reports that the destination of the bus is often given out incorrectly on the automated bus PA and that the PA system on the bus is too loud. Neb advised Ms. Adams that he would bring her concerns to the proper representatives of the bus company. Meeting was adjourned at 1100 hrs. with the next meeting scheduled for 12/13/10 at 1000 hrs.
