Review of Previous Minutes Minutes from 9/29 meeting were reviewed and accepted.
Karen McLaughlin:
Southold Town Senior Services Karen has secured a PT aide for Fishers Island. Karen
Report and Holly will provide orientation. Budget has been passed. The plan to extend
meals program to the Peconic Center as well as purchase furniture for
intergenerational programming at the Peconic School is on target for January.
The LIGEC program on Senior At Risk went well, the increase in financial
abuse and credit card debt around seniors is on the rise.
Jean DeLorme
: Katinka House census is variable. Touro Law will be
presenting at the November caregivers meeting.
Jackie Martinez
: 11/18 Falls Prevention with Suffolk County DOH.
Phyllis Markopoulis
: MOW is at about 113. There is a new PT Sr Citizens
Aide, Heather Piscatelli working with her. HEAP opens on 11/1.
Lynne Richards
: Annual Halloween Costume party will be held at The
Soundview. November, trip to NYC.
Mental Health Integration Grant Wellness series on 11/5 on Hoarding/Clutter. Presented on Shelter Island on
Senior Options and Solutions the older driver. A LIGEC program will be held in January on this topic, flyer
forthcoming. Discussed status of telepsych consultations. There continues to
be difficulty getting psychiatry/care/consultation for seniors on the North Fork
Vicky Cortese: Cancer Support group continues to have consistent attendance.
Kristie Golden: Discussed grant status and upcoming Island wide survey of
seniors through North Shore/LIJ.
Jay Slotkin, MD:
Agency Reports There is a new director of nursing at San Simeon. He will
be presenting on Alzheimer’s there on 11/16. He is also working on a health
prevention program via LIGEC to be held at Stony Brook and ELIH. Details
will be forthcoming.
Holly Rhodes-Teague
: Open enrollment for Medicare Part D is 11/15-12/31.

The State budget is currently in limbo due the pending new admin in Albany.
Commissioner Burgess has resigned and will be replaced by Greg Olsen as
acting Commissioner. Discussed concerns about increase in scams focused on
seniors in the community. Flu shots for seniors are widely available in Suffolk
County this season. RSVP has started the Chronic Disease Self Management
program and hopes to bring it out to the East End in the near future.
Daphne Shuttleworth:
10/16 was the fundraiser for the Alz Assoc at Martha
Clara; unfortunately the weather did not cooperate.
Bruce Petrucci
: Lack of volunteers is a problem. Karen offered some
assistance with outreach/announcement.
Robin Imandt
: NFWFW grant is coming to an end. There were apprx. 352
responses to the survey and the next step will be the development of a
community action plan. Some of the identified needs are social, info on aging
in place. A resource directory is in the works as well as the potential for a
community sensitivity training via the LIGEC.
Choice Medical Transport
: 36 vehicles in the fleet, over 300 people trained
in CPR. Trying to open up service on the East End, progressing well.
Julia Graziano
: provides medical case management. Co runs the cancer
support group with Vicky.
Due to the Holiday schedule, our next scheduled meeting will be 12/8 and
will cover the months of November and December 2010.
