MONTHLY REPORT: SEPTEMBER 2010
2010 SUMMER BEACH SEASON: came to a close on Labor Day, Monday,
September 6. All beaches were checked for cleanliness and security. Equipment
from all six beaches is stored over the winter months in the storage sheds at the
beaches and at the recreation center. I 'also contacted Verizon to put our 6 beach
phones on a temporary suspension so the town would not be charged the monthly
fees each month which will result in substantial savings.
PARKS~ BEACHES~ AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING: was
held on Thursday, September 23. Numerous topics were discussed in an ongoing
effort to keep members apprised of the various happenings, improvements, etc. in
town.
2011 RECREATION DEPARTMENT BUDGET REQUEST: was submitted
to Town Clerk Betty Neville this past August. A meeting was held with
Supervisor Scott Russell and Town Comptroller John Cushman to review the
requested budget.
NATIONAL EAP TRAINING PROGRAM: Southold Town, in cooperation
with National EAP, is conducting a series of Executive Training Programs to help
Department Heads become more effective Managers. I attended the Thursday
September 16 progrmn: EAP as a Management Tool: Recognizing and Resolving
Work Performance Issues.
FALL 2010 BROCHURE: The brochure was an insert in the August 12 edition
of The Suffolk Times. The brochures were brought to all 4 local libraries, the
Human Resource Center in Mattituck, town hall and local supermarkets. All
activities, programs, and bus trips were also listed on our website. Our thanks
goes out to Lloyd Reisenberg for his continued help. Registration has been going
strong all month long.
CLERK TYPIST INTERVIEWS: We received 37 applications for the part-
time clerk typist position at the recreation department. Twelve people were
interviewed on Monday, September 27 & Wednesday, September 29. As a result
of these interviews, Judy McCleery was hired for the position.
WINTER 2010-11 BROCHURE: is in the process of being finalized. We are
always looking for new instructors so we can offer a wider variety of programs
and activities to town residents.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ken Reeves
Recreation Supervisor
