HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/2010 TOWN OF SOUTHOLD RECREATION DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT: SEPTEMBER 2010 2010 SUMMER BEACH SEASON: came to a close on Labor Day, Monday, September 6. All beaches were checked for cleanliness and security. Equipment from all six beaches is stored over the winter months in the storage sheds at the beaches and at the recreation center. I 'also contacted Verizon to put our 6 beach phones on a temporary suspension so the town would not be charged the monthly fees each month which will result in substantial savings. PARKS~ BEACHES~ AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING: was held on Thursday, September 23. Numerous topics were discussed in an ongoing effort to keep members apprised of the various happenings, improvements, etc. in town. 2011 RECREATION DEPARTMENT BUDGET REQUEST: was submitted to Town Clerk Betty Neville this past August. A meeting was held with Supervisor Scott Russell and Town Comptroller John Cushman to review the requested budget. NATIONAL EAP TRAINING PROGRAM: Southold Town, in cooperation with National EAP, is conducting a series of Executive Training Programs to help Department Heads become more effective Managers. I attended the Thursday September 16 progrmn: EAP as a Management Tool: Recognizing and Resolving Work Performance Issues. FALL 2010 BROCHURE: The brochure was an insert in the August 12 edition of The Suffolk Times. The brochures were brought to all 4 local libraries, the Human Resource Center in Mattituck, town hall and local supermarkets. All activities, programs, and bus trips were also listed on our website. Our thanks goes out to Lloyd Reisenberg for his continued help. Registration has been going strong all month long. CLERK TYPIST INTERVIEWS: We received 37 applications for the part- time clerk typist position at the recreation department. Twelve people were interviewed on Monday, September 27 & Wednesday, September 29. As a result of these interviews, Judy McCleery was hired for the position. WINTER 2010-11 BROCHURE: is in the process of being finalized. We are always looking for new instructors so we can offer a wider variety of programs and activities to town residents.
