EETC Update
:
Neb reported that the latest meeting included a review of the bus/rail connectivity plans
and talk of a new prototype of a vehicle to be used with the program. In reviewing the
work plan again all individual issues were discussed and how to re-work and prioritize
the plan.
Tom Fox brought up a concept that has been discussed of using the waterways as a
“marine highway” for commerce to ease truck traffic on the roadways. Tom stated that a
“I-95 Marine Highway” was mentioned as a way to alleviate I-95 traffic by using marine
transportation as an alternative. Tom also stated that Cross Sound Ferry has been
approved and received funding for a grant from the US Department of Transportation for
upgrading some of their ferries to accommodate an extra 3,000 trucks a year as part of the
plan to redirect trucking from the I-95 congestion onto Long Island. A discussion ensued
on the viability of this plan.
