HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/09/2010 Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board Minutes of August 09, 2010 Present: Anne Davey, Tom Rabbitt, Irene Tsontakis-Bradley, Elaine White, Officer William Brewer, Councilman Vincent Orlando, Councilman Albert Krupski and Phillip Beltz. th Review of July 12 Minutes: Approved. Report of Subcommittees: ?? Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Update-Phillip reported that six candidates have applied for the Youth Advisory Council (YAC). ?? Internships and Employment-Three students will participate in the Town’s summer employment program through Suffolk County Dept. of Labor. . ?? Fundraising-No report. ?? Resource Directory Dissemination-Reference copies will be distributed to schools, libraries, North Fork Promotion Council sites, Town Clerk’s office and churches. Irene will develop a flyer indicating that the directory is on the Town’s website. Phillip will order additional 200 copies. Summer Jam Update: Attendance 42. Nice mix of different ages. Planning Committee Report on October 2010 Anti-Bias Education Day: Anne reported st that the committee is planning an October 1 workshop sponsored by the Youth Bureau with training from the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County primarily for students and several educators. Establishing Planning Committee for Future Presentations: Board discussion that a spring 2011 workshop on “Alcohol and Other Drugs” would be appropriate near the prom season and can feature topics such as: social host law, heroin epidemic, alcohol availability, prescription drug use/abuse, etc. Speakers could include Kym Laube (HUGS), Jack Hoffman (ELIH), the District Attorney’s office, LICADD, Family Service League, etc. th YB Volunteers and Chaperones: Needed for Family Movie Nite (August 20). th Town of Southold Anti-Bias Taskforce Community Picnic: Reminder of August 28 event from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Strawberry Fields in Mattituck. All are welcome and volunteers are needed. Back to School Night: Discussion that Youth Bureau board members should attend meetings and provide a presence with resource directories. Tom, Elaine and Irene will provide details of when schools will host.
