Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board
Minutes of July 12, 2010
Present:
Jessica Stumpf, Tom Rabbitt, Irene Tsontakis-Bradley, Elaine White, Liza Coppola, Jeff Standish,
Officer Tom Hudock, Councilman Vincent Orlando and Phillip Beltz.

Review of June 14 Minutes:
Approved.
Report of Subcommittees:
??
Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Update-Phillip reported that he and Barbara
interviewed four YAC candidates and several others have submitted applications.
Jessica suggested that recruitment continue into September.
??
Internships and Employment-There are four students participating in the Town’s
summer employment program through Suffolk County Dept. of Labor. Funding for
employment for students with special needs did not materialize.

Fundraising-Jeff reported that he has been in discussion with Brady Rhymer to
possibly host a concert in the winter for younger students. He also indicated that
“Breathing East” would host another concert.

Resource Directory-Irene provided copies of the 2010 directory. Kudos to Irene and
her committee for their work in producing this meaningful document. It will ultimately
be on the Town’s website. Several suggestions made for distribution: schools,
libraries, North Fork Promotion Council sites, Town Clerk’s office, churches, etc. To
be further discussed at the next meeting and possibly order more copies.
Updates:
??
Anti-Bias Taskforce and School Administrators Survey- Carolyn Peabody indicated
that she has all the materials from Mattituck and Cutchogue East and will proceed
ahead with them and wait to hear from other schools.
Presentation: Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County:
Phillip will
follow-up with Sarah Cushman, Director of Youth Education, to determine how she wishes to
proceed to launch program in October.
Future Workshops:
Supervisor Russell suggested that the YB consider hosting a
presentation regarding heroin epidemic in Suffolk County and its relevance to Southold,
possibly with the assistance of the District Attorney’s office. Barbara Sheryll suggested the
assistance of LICADD, Phillip will reach out to them. Kym Laube contacted Phillip to seek
Youth Bureau support for her to procure funding to provide presentation on teens and
alcohol. Tom Hudock volunteered to be a member of the committee. It was also suggested
to include something on illicit use of prescription drugs. Jessica suggested that a workshop
devoted to eating disorders be considered.

YB Volunteers and Chaperones:
Needed for Summer Jam III (July 17 6-9 p.m. and

Family Movie Nite (August 20). Please let Phillip know if you can volunteer.
Other:
Discussion regarding upgrade of website, making it more user-friendly and eye-
appealing. YB and YAC will provide feedback. Irene suggested resource of Rusty Tyler of
Cornell Coop. Ext. September meeting YB will establish goals and objectives for 2011.
