Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board
Minutes of March 15, 2010
Present:
Sara Maaiki, Jessica Stumpf, Jeff Standish, Jessica Benedicto, Bonnie Mazzaferro, Elaine White, Irene
Tsontakis-Bradley, Karen McLaughlin, Officer William Brewer, Louise Hug and Phillip Beltz.

Review of February 8 Minutes:
Approved.
Report of Subcommittees:
??
Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and Recruitment-Phillip reported Maureen’s Haven
community service dinner was successful—additional activities will be planned at
tonight’s meeting. It is time to recruit additional YAC as approximately one-third will
graduate. It was suggested to host an afterschool membership drive with
refreshments and recruitment literature along with applications. Also noted that YAC
should assume the lead in recruitment, however there may be confusion in the “YAC”
name and possibly should be referred to as “Youth Bureau”.

Internships and Employment-Job Shadow day for high school juniors is April 16th.
??
Fundraising-Jeff reported that over 100 attended “Breathing East” concert and raised
over $600 ($445 cash at the door). Future fundraising activities could include:
Brady Rhymer concert for younger crowd

Home run hitting contest with Hamptons baseball league
o

Resource Directory-Irene has completed edits of 2009 directory and will submit
revisions to Inkspot for publishing 2010 directory.
Updates:

Anti-Bias Taskforce and School Administrators Survey: Meeting is scheduled for later
this week to discuss content and logistics of administering survey—timetable changed
for early fall rather than late spring.

Teen Depression and Suicide Prevention Workshop- Planning efforts have stalled as
recommended speaker has not returned phone calls or emails. The committee will
seek out another guest—Tim Stewart was recommended by several YAC members.
State of Youth Update:
Report circulated by New York State that features story about
Southold YAC leaf raking for seniors.
College Acceptance Lecture:
The 4EC is sponsoring a discussion with Dave Marcus at the

Mattituck-Laurel library on April 26.
Youth Bureau Term Re-appointments and Recognition:
Jessica and Bonnie will not
renew their terms however wish to remain involved with the Youth Bureau—they were
commended for their work. The Town Board will not fill their vacancies.

State of the Town Address:
Supervisor will host address on March 18 –open to public.
Other:
Jeff reported that final touches will be made to the mural at the Recreation Ctr.
Next Meeting Date:
Monday, April 12th at 5:30 p.m. at HRC.
