Minutes of February 08, 2010

Review of January 11th Minutes:

Report of Subcommittees:

Youth Advisory Council (YAC)-Phillip reported YAC membership will plan additional
community service projects, social and recreational activities at tonight’s meeting.
??
Internships and Employment-Tom stated April Job Shadow day is looking for
th
additional employers to sponsor 11 grade students.
??
Fundraising-Jeff discussed “Breathing East” concert scheduled for Friday, February
th
12 at 7 p.m. at Southold High School. Everything is set—YAC may arrive early and
help out (distribute flyers, sell tickets, etc.). Phillip reminded board of soliciting
sponsorships, he will develop program, Liza will speak to represent board and Lauren
for YAC. Signage will announce no re-entry if people leave the building.
Updates:

Social Host Law presentation: North Fork Alliance presented at Southold Free Library
that was very sparsely attended (Phillip and Officer Brewer attended). Program
content was not presented clearly and little information offered to the public.

Anti-Bias Taskforce Partnership: Meeting is scheduled for late February to finalize
survey.
??
Workshop-Substance Abuse Prevention/Intervention: Three members of
subcommittee met and reported their suggestions to the board, primarily the
development of “Teen Wellness and Safety” series that would feature “Alcohol and
Other Drugs” presentation as well as an additional workshop. Andrea requested that
board consider suicide prevention in light of the recent tragedy in Mattituck and its
impact on fellow students. The board agreed that this topic would be most beneficial
and Barbara suggested a speaker – Tom iterated that this complement’s the YB
mission and would serve the entire community. Phillip will email the school district
superintendents and principals letting them know the YB is planning to host a
workshop in the Spring.
College Acceptance Lecture:
The 4EC is sponsoring a discussion with Dave Marcus at the

Mattituck-Laurel library on April 26.
Resource Directory:
Irene reported that she is editing the directory for 2010 and would like
any changes and comments forwarded to her via email (it21@cornell.edu) no later than the
end of the month.
Next Meeting Date:
Monday, March 15th at 5:30 p.m. at HRC.
