Approval of March 29, 2010 Meeting Minutes
Tabled to next month's meeting as the minutes were not available at this time.
Welcome to Commissioner Joel Reitman
Joel was welcomed as a new member of the Commission and gave a brief bio to
commission members.
EETC Update
Neb reported that there was a meeting last week in which a representative of the Long
Island Railroad and presented a program to the participants on what the LIRR is doing to
increase ridership on the North Fork. The particulars were outlined in a handout titled,
"Growing Ridership, Ronkonkoma to Greenport" which was distributed to commission
members.
New Comprehensive Plan for Town
Heather spoke on the background of the Town's attempt to introduce a new
Comprehensive Plan for the Town and informed the commission that various town
committees that are already established will be called upon for their input on all aspects
of the Plan, including the Transportation Commission. Heather distributed a handout
listing the chapters that would make up the Plan as well as a timeline for work on the
Plan.
Supervisor's Requests
No requests were forwarded.
Planning Board Requests
Neb distributed a letter to the Planning Board with the results of the Commission's
conclusion on the 7-Eleven Store in Mattituck, endorsing the traffic study.
Current Transportation Issues - Updates:
a) Southold/Greenport Bus Shelters - Jamie reports that Suffolk County is
encountering issues on their end but the Southold Village shelter is still
scheduled. Greenport Village will be scheduled for the next round of shelter
constructions.
b) Orientation/Interpretive Signage Project- Neb gave the hi~tory of this project up
to where it is still waiting to clear Phase I and the problems with certain hamlets
in gaining cooperation for the project. Bob Feger advised the commission that he
will presenting the project again to the Greenport Village Board tonight at their
meeting in an effort to gain support.
c) 7-11 Project - Heather advised that the Planning Board hired a consultant to
review the traffic study for the project.
d) Route 25, Mattituck- Town Study - Heather advised that a study is also being
conducted on this project by a consultant and is due back by June/July, 2010.
e) Valero Gas Station, Cutchogue - Heather advised that the project is near
approval.
f) Crosswalk in Peconic - Supt. Peter Harris advised that it will be painted
sometime after the Spring clean-up is complete.
g) Traffic Light Request- County Rt. 48 & Town Beach - Neb reports that nothing
new has been received from Suffolk County on this topic. Supt. Harris requested
the Commission write a letter to the SCDPW requesting they take a look at the
Town Beach Project and the sidewalk to the east oftbe entrance as it is not
accessible by wheelchair and just dead-ends. Letter to be written.
h) CR 48 & Intersection with Tucker's Lane, Southold- Nothing to report.
i) CR 48 & Eastern Long lsland Kampgrounds, Southold- Nothing to report.
j) Southwold Housing Project, Southold- In Litigation.
k) Shizen Project, East Marion - Heather reports that they are still waiting for a
DEIS of the project.
I) Harbes Farm Winery Project- Heather reports that the roadway issue has been
resolved and they are waiting for the Harbes' to re-submit their plan.
Old Business and New Business
Bob Feger requested that the meeting minutes be emailed to commission members so
they may be reviewed prior to next month's meeting.
Jim Baker asked if anyone was aware where the Town sign listing rules for the boat ramp
in New Suffolk had gone as it is missing from its location. Jamie to ask D.P.W.
Supt. Harris brought to the attention of the commission that there are multiple drivers
disobeying the 'no parking' regulations on Champlin Place in Greenport. PD advised.
