Review of July 28th Minutes: Approved.
Report of Subcommittees:
· Youth Outreach and Representation-Barbara reported that the Youth Advisory Council
met in September with only a few members. She continues to plan leadership classes
and will resume when more youth attend. Once Barbara determines the current active
membership of YAC, she may solicit more participation. The YAC is planning a visit to
the Garance gallery in New Suffolk.
· Events- Karen reported that there are preliminary plans for an intergenerational event
in the fall, details to follow.
· Surveys-Phillip distributed a preliminary analysis of surveys from youth and adults.
The responses from surveys will be utilized for future planning efforts. The survey for
adults remains on the Town's website. Suggestion made to issue press release to
school newspapers regarding survey results as well as a story/photo of current YAC
membership.
· Resource Directory-no report. Phillip will speak with Irene to schedule a meeting.
Presentation: Richard Hillary spoke to the Board regarding his years of service providing
recreational and educational opportunities to youth. Frequently his offerings include open
space stewardship programs.
Future Presentations: Phillip reported that Nancy Olsen-Harbich, parenting instructor at
Cornell Cooperative Extension, would not be able to meet with the Youth Bureau Board until
November 24th meeting to make a presentation of her training materials to offer parenting
education. Because funding is allocated this year, Board members approved meeting with
her prior to November to expedite opportunities. Phillip and Irene will meet with her as soon
as she is available to explore ideas for a community educational forum.
Change of Meeting Time: It was proposed to change meeting time from 6:00 p.m. to 5:30
p.m. No one opposed the change of time.
Next MeetinR Date: September 22nd at 5:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Phillip Beltz
