Review of September 22nd Minutes: Approved.
Report of Subcommittees:
· Youth Outreach and Representation-Barbara sent an emaii to existing Youth Advisory
Council (YAC) members to determine their level of interest to remain active with the
group. Depending on the results, additional outreach may be necessary. School
representatives (Elaine, Jessica and Tom) stated that a lot of time and effort went into
recruiting the YAC and rather than recruit new members, need to reach out to existing
base. Participation in the "Open Mic Night" sessions has been limited and greater
efforts to promote youth attendance are necessary.
· Events- Karen reported that the Intergenerational BBQ was well attended by seniors
with very limited youth attendance. In an effort to make future events successful, it is
critical to have commitment from youth as well as the understanding of expectations of
their involvement with the YAC. Tom indicated that schools need to be informed of
events so they can ensure representation from each school district. To avoid any
potential problems in the future, Karen requested that back-up plans are developed
and communicated when board members/volunteers have emergencies and cannot
attend events that they helped to plan.
· Resource Directory-Irene created a database to enable providers to send responses
electronically through the Town's website. She requested that board members solicit
responses from the community to enhance the resource directory.
Creation of New Subcommittee, Fundraisin,q: Jeffrey informed board members that
despite budget restraints it would be advantageous to pursue fundraising as an alternative.
Karen stated it may not be possible for municipalities to raise funds. It would be possible for
other non-profits (Lions club, Rotary, etc.) to fundraise on behalf of the Youth Bureau. Phillip
will seek clarification from the Town Attorney. Jeff provided a handout of suggested
fundraising activities.
Town Hall Meetin,q Cornell Cooperative Extension: Reminder of parenting workshops.
Youth Website: The Youth Bureau link is on the Town's website.
East End Gan,q Awareness Conference: Phillip informed board that East End providers
and Youth Bureaus are organizing a gang awareness conference, March 31, 2009.
Next Meeting Date: November 24th at 5:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Phillip Beltz
