HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/13/2009Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board Minutes of July 13, 2009 Present: Liza Coppola, James Gorman, Louise Hug, Officer William Brewer, Office Tom Hudock, Diane Mollica, Bonnie Mazzaferro, Karen McLaughlin, Jessica Benedicto and Phillip Beltz. Review of June 8th Minutes: Approved. Report of Subcommittees: · Youth Advisory Council (YAC)-Phillip reported that YAC will not have meetings this summer but are meeting and working through the Events Committee to plan summer activities. New YAC interviews are scheduled for August · Events- Liza and Phillip updated summer activities of Summer Jam on July 31st at Recreation Ctr. and Family Movie Nite on August 14th at Tasker Park. Suggestions made for assistance in getting large outdoor screen. Liza reported that next year YB/YAC booth should be at Strawberry Festival on Thursday and Friday, rather than Saturday or Sunday. · Resource Directory-Copies of the directory were distributed. · Internships and Employment-Five students will work through Suffolk County's Summer Works program at Human Resource Center, Recreation and DPW. One student will intern with Phillip. · Fundraising: In absence of Jeff, Phillip reported that golf outing was cancelled due to poor attendance. Jim stated that Mattituck Village Market said to keep their $25 donation. Possible future events could be homerun hitting contest with the Hamptons baseball league. Jessica suggested "Battle of Bands". Updates: · New York State Youth Bureau Funding: Limited funding received by the State. · Anti-Bias Taskforce Partnership: An August meeting with school officials has been scheduled to discuss doctoral student survey on measuring "perceptions of difference". Presentation and Future Presentations: Jessica Benedicto discussed the North Fork Alliance program in absence of their director, April Winningham. Suggestion made to partner with Youth Bureau for upcoming activities (Family Move Nite) and workshop on Social Host law. North Fork United Schools to present at September meeting and a future presentation by 4EC. Substance Abuse Questionnaires: Surveys from Suffolk County were distributed. Support for Diversity in Mattituck Cutcho,que School District: Flyer for July 14th meeting distributed. Next Meeting Date: Monday, August 10th at 5:30 p.m. at the Human Resource Ctr.
