SOUTHOLD TOWN ANTI-BIAS TASK FORCE
MINUTES, MARCH 15, 20010
Attendance: Eleanor Lingo, Betty Murphy, Jean Le Pre, Carolyn Peabody, Merle
Levine. Rev. Heyward. Pat Fulford, Cindy Smith, Vai Shelby
Absent: Mike Domino, Marjorie Day, Audrey Horton, Edaua Cichanowicz
Minutes were finally accepted but Task Force concentrated on the forthcoming
North Fork Community Picnic on August 28, from 11 am to 4 pm. at Laurel Park:
Rev. Heyward: Letters must go out to all the churches in Southhold Town,
asking them to sponsor a table, and bring food for their table. Councilmen have offered a flag.
Letters should be sent to the Southold Town stores asking for them to
contribute hot dogs and hamburgers and paper goods.
Val Shelby and Pat Fulford will plan the entertainment.
Flyers needed. Merle Leving volunteered to prepare a flyer. Supervisor
Russell would like to have a flyer to show to the Town Board.
Betty Murphy reported about acquiring balloons as decorations from the
Sweet Shop. Carolyn Peabody suggested that balloon could be an environmental
hazard.
Letter-head stationery needed for ABTF letters, etc.
Concern about Laurel Park having all the necessary equipment: 3 large grills,
30 garbage containers, 30 tables and chairs, 10 Porta-potties, (and sanitizers). Water
source and E.M.S. It was decided to ask Supervisor Scott Russell, who, kindly came
to the meeting. He believes Laurel Park is an excellent location for the picnic and
maid he would cheek on the availability of the necessary, supplies.
Picnic committees need to meet to finalize their plans. Jeanne Le Pre offered
to send reminders of the committee meetings.
Cin0y Smith pointed out that planning the Picnic is an enormous
undertaking.
Further Business:
ABTF Brochure - Audrey Horton is working on it.
Report on the Schools:
Cindy Smith - there are 6 teacher openings in Greenport.
opportunity to engage teachers of color.
Carolyn Peabody: Mattituck is working to identify where to
recruit teachers of color.
Jeanne Let Pre reported that there was an excellent program
on Bullying for 6, 7,and 8 graders. Also a meeting for parents on suicide
for parents, and one is planned for the students.
There is an on-going advisory committee to the School Board.
