RECREATION DEPARTMENT
MONTHLY REPORT: MAY 2010
2010 SUMMER EMPLOYEE INTERVIEWS: were held at the recreation
center on Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11. There were no
positions available for beach attendants, playground instructors, or beach
managers. I interviewed 16 lifeguard applicants for 6 positions that were
available this year.
Interviews had to be conducted during the evening hours as the majority
of applicants are high school or college students. In an ongoing effort to
not accumulate any overtime (or at least keep it to a minimum), I came in
to work at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11.
2010 SUMMER BROCHURE: was brought to Minergraphics of Southold
for typesetting and layout. All programs and activities were sent to
Barbara Dammers and Jon Shearin at Roy Reeve Agency for review and
approval. The brochure was an insert in the May 20 edition of The Suffolk
Times. Registration began on Thursday, May 20th and brochures were
brought to all 4 local libraries, supermarkets, and town hall. All activities,
programs, and bus trips were also listed on our website. Our thanks goes
out to Lloyd Reisenberg for his continued help.
2010 SUMMER EMPLOYEE BEACH MANUAL: has been updated and
will be printed for all summer employees.
CPR MANIKIN DECONTAMINATION: In preparation for the upcoming
CPR recertification program for town lifeguards, I thoroughly washed,
soaked in bleach, and wiped dry all CPR manikins.
SEASONAL EMPLOYEE ACCOUNTING PAPERWORK: was mailed out
to all seasonal employees (lifeguards, beach attendants, beach managers,
playground instructors, water safety instructors, and our lifeguard trainers)
on Thursday, May 13th. A deadline of Wednesday, June 2 was given for
the paperwork to be completed and returned to the recreation department.
The packet included a town application, and the following forms: W-4; I-9;
1%2104; retirement system forms; employee information; personal health
history; and the acknowledgement of receipt of employee handbook.
BRONX ZOO BUS TRIP: was held on Saturday, May 22. Fifty-five
people attended this trip and an enjoyable time was had by all as the
weather was exceptionally nice.
BEACH PREPARATION: First aid supplies, lifeguard equipment, etc~ are
all being inventoried and ordered if needed for the summer season~
Numerous meetings and training sessions have also been scheduled for
summer personnel Applications to receive permits to operate all six of
our beaches were submitted to the Suffolk County Department of Health
and we already received said permits, which will be prominently posted at
our beaches.
