Approval of Minutes -March 2008 Meeting /'
AC.hal~rer~-amn;eStiCn;~mldeanrc~ at Doug Constant's home in Orient~ ~Oyst~
Historic District was very worthwhile. Committees were selected and
specific goals were set for balance of year (See Old Business.)
B. Walking/driving tour of sites in Orient that we had approved earlier,
were having hearings on, and others to be reviewed in the future were
visited. As a result, changes made without the Commission's approval
were flagged. Our pre-view of the Rose house revealed some future
challenges.
C. We agreed that individual Commissioners would give general
comments about the landmarking process when asked, but not give
advice on a specific project, advising that ~the Commission will review the
project and make recommendations based on the Code. The application
for a Building Permit initiates the formal process. The Commission
encourages pre-application consultations with the Commission at a
regular monthly meeting.
D. Will coordinate with Public Works Dept. to get ~Velcome to Historic
Southold Town" at entrances to Town; also consider more obvious
National Historic District signs.
E. Outcome of Crary application with Zoning Board - Ron and Damon
Old BuSiness
A. Jim and Ron renominated by Town Board
B. Reviewed application of Valerie Scopaz for registering landmark at
56755 Main Road (NY 25), Southold. It was approved by Town Board.
C. Discussed "policing" of work on listed landmarks; set a procedure for
visiting/inspecting sites before a notice of violation is sent - Damon
D Review final draft of Historic Preservation Commission Handbook.
Discuss review process, production and distribution (Architects, builders,
libraries, realtors, etc.). Comments received from John Sepenowski,
Deputy Supervisor (see attached), and Jerry Goehringer, Chair, Zoning
Committee. - -Damon
E. Place Purchase Orders for additional plaques, pamphlets and office. ,/.v~
supplies that were deferred to after December 31 by Town Board - (on ,,L~.,~"'"
hold until Mel returns)
F. Progress on web site; was suggested that our new walking/driving tours
