HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/19/2008Southold Town Landmarks Preservation Commission February 19, 2008 Meeting Minutes Date: Feb. 19, 2008 Time: 3:00 PM Location: Supervisor's Conference Room, Town Hall Southold, NY Attendees: Jim Grathwohl, Doug Constant, Jamie Garretson, Larry Jungblut, Ron Rossi and Barbara Schnitzler. The Commissioners recommended that Jim Grathwohl and Mel Phaff be no- minated for another three year term. The Town Supervisor will be advised of this recommendation so that the Town Board can reappoint Jim and Mel at an upcoming Town Board meeting in March. Along with this recommendation, Jim, Mel and Larry were reelected to their present positions - Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively. Ron reported on his presentation of the LPC's recommendations for the Crary application at the January ZBA meeting. The ZBA still defines the application of having "dormers" which are not acceptable in lieu using the terminology of "clear-story" which can be considered an early skylight and therefore be ac- ceptable. Further discussion on this issue will be with the Town Board and Town Attorney for resolution. Ron will prepare a presentation for the Town Board at a future workshop meeting in March. The draft of the Historic Preservation Handbook has been sent to various town officials and boards for their comments and recommendations. An application from for Historic designation on the property at 56755 Main Road, Southold was submitted by Valerie Scopaz. Barbara will review it with Valerie and present it to the Commission for final comment before recom- mendation and sending it on to the Town Board. Jim wants the Commission to review and discuss new projects for 2008. The members should review Jim's list for discussion at the March meeting. Consultations were here with: Dave Fisher regarding an application for the McGuire project on Orchard Street in Orient. The commission asked for additional drawings showing the street view of the proposed porch addition between the main house and barn. It was suggested that a Public Headng on this project be held at the next meeting, March 18, 2008 at 4:00 PM. Kevin Perry discussed the plans for a renovation and new construction at 850 Village Lane, Orient. The commission was showed street views of how Vil- lage Lane would look like after construction and how the new structure would fit into the community. Before adjourning the meeting, it was decided that the commissioners should meet at Doug's house in Orient and after lunch visit the sites for the March public hearing and other possible locales in Orient. This is scheduled for 11:00 AM on March 18, with the regular meeting starting at 3:00 PM and the Public Headngs at 4:00 PM.
