HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/23/2009RECEIVED 20]0 Southold Transportation Commission November 23, 2009 Meeting Minutes $outhold Town Clerk Attendance: Chairman Neb Brashich, Peter Harris, Jamie Richter, Margaret Brown, Heather Lanza, Bob Feger, Frank Field, Tom Fox, Jim Baker-excused and Capt. Martin Fladey Meeting called to order at 10:05 a.m. Motion by Feger, seconded by Harris to accept the October Meeting minutes, approved. Planning Board Requests- 7-11 Project, Mattituck Martin Sidor was present from the Planning Board requesting traffic input from the Commission on the Mattituek 7-11 Project. Neb advised Mr. Sidor of the Commi~ion's past actions and discussions on the project. Jamie Richter told Mr. Sidor that he felt the Commission's rccommendafons regarding the 7-11 project's property will make it a safer location and that there will be a business there regardless and traffic will have to be addressed. The Commission members discussed the whole Factory Avenue traffic congestion and agreed that this project should not be tied into the overall traffic congestion issues of Factory Avenue. Mr. Sidor thanked the Commission and advised that the Planning Board will address tonight at its meeting. EETC Update Neb read a letter from Councilman Thomas Wickham in which Mr. Wickham addressed several fmai issues as a member including the 7-11 project, Champlin Place parking and the EETC. Neb stated that he would remind the Supervisor that the Town Board should designate another Town Board member to replace Mr. Wickham as a liaison to the Commission. Current Transportation Issues- Update Southoid/Greenport Bus Shelters- Southold's shelter is still moving forward in the schedule. Orientation/Interpretive Signage project- The members reported back to Neb on their projects of verifying the sample signs with the respective Hamlets. It was suggested that G-reanport Village have someone do the work on their signs. Crosswalk in Peconie- Letter distributed and read regarding same. Traffic Light Request- CR 48 and Southold Town Beach- Letter distributed and read regarding same. CR 48 and Intersections with Tucker's Lane- Letter distributed and read regarding same. o CR 48 and Eastern Long Island Kampgrounds- Letter distributed and read regarding same. o CR 48~ Cox's Lane, Cutchogue- Neb reported that the upgrade to the traffic signal had taken place as requested. o Southwold Housing Project- Heather- no new developments. o Shizen Project- East Marion- Heather- no new developments. o Valero Service Station, Cutehogue- Heather- no new developments. o Harbes Faro Winery Project- Heather- no new developments. o Cutehogue Heritage Project- Heather- no new developments. Old Business & New Business The C~rand Avenue bridge project was discussed along with the complaints from local citizens about the detour. Pete Harris advised the members that the problem with materials being used at the sight has been resolved and work should be hack underway shortly. Neb suggested that the December meeting be canceled because of the holidays, which was agreed upon by all members. Next meeting was set for January 25, 2010.
