Our house on Fishers Island is located on Reservoir Road overlooking Silver Eel Pond.
With its westerly exposure in the summer there is significant solar gain on the porch and
in the living room, and, in times of inclement weather, exposure to wind driven rains. To
mitigate these issues we are planning to remove the existing porch and build it back with
a roof covering the portion of the porch in front of the living room and down stairs
bedroom. When finished, the new deck will be approximately 2 feet wider than the
existing deck. All of the proposed work would be outside the 100' wetland buffer
We have engaged Charlie Van Voorhis, principai at Durland Van Voorhis Architects, for
the project, and he advises us that new deck and roof will conform to ail the setback
requirements for the property. On his advice, we request that you issue a letter of non-
jurisdiction for the project.
We include the following drawings/picture depicting the scope of the proposed work and
the orientation of the project on our property:
Photo of existing porch taken August of 2009
North and South Elevation drawings of the house and proposed porch
roof
Copy of the site plan drawing for the lot immediately adjacent to the
NW showing the location of the existing house/porch on the property
Copy of a site plan for communal septic system with delineation of the
100' setback line from wetlands buffer.
We are regretfully off island for the winter, but please avail yourselves of any
oppommity you have to come and inspect the proposed project site.
