Southold Town Trustees and Mark Terry
Reconstruct 57' of existing bulkhead, in-place. Backfill with approximately 38 cubic yards of trucked
in sand. Replace existing stairs with 3' wide stairs, in-place. Provide for a 10' wide non-turf buffer.
DEVELOPED COAST POITCTES
Policy I Foster a pattern of development in the Town of Southold that enhances community
character, preserves open space, makes efficient use of infrastructure, makes beneficial
use of a coastal location, and minimizes adverse effects of development.
The existing bulkhead on this prope¢o/is failing. The adjacent properties are presently bulkheaded
and the client is attempting to maintain the property.
Policy 2
Preserve historic resources of the Town of Southold.
This property has no significant historic resources.
Policy 3
Enhance visual quality and protect scenic resources throughout the Town of Southold.
The bulkhead at this location exists. The present condition of this bulkhead is becoming unstable
threatening the integrity of the upland property. A new bulkhead is just an attempt of the upland
property owner to maintain her property. There is an existing bulkhead and the surrounding area is
bulkheaded so the visual quality and scenic resources will remain the same.
NATURAL COAST POL/CIES
Policy 4 Minimize loss of life, structures, and natural resources from flooding and erosion.
The existing bulkhead is needed to protect the upland property. The new bulkhead will not increase
flooding or erosion in this area.
Policy 5
Protect and improve water quality and supply in the Town of Southold.
This proposal will not have any impact on the water quality and supply of the Town of Southold.
Policy 6
Protect and restore the quality and function of the Town of Southold's ecosystem.
This proposal will not have any impact on the Town of Southold's ecosystem.
Policy 7
Protect and improve air quality in the Town of Southold.
This proposal will not have any impact on the air quality of the Town of Southold.
Policy 8
Minimize environmental degradaUon in the Town of Southold from solid waste and
hazardous substances and wastes.
This proposal will not degrade the environment with solid waste or hazardous substances.
PUBITC COAST POITC~ES
Polio/9 Provide for public access to, and recreaUonal use of, coastal waters, public lands, and
public resources of the Town of Southold.
Our proposal will not limit public access to the coastal waters or public resources of the Town of
Southold. We are proposing to remove the existing bulkhead and construct a new bulkhead in its
place. The bulkhead is in line with the adjacent properties and will not extend seaward of the high
water mark.
WORK/NG COAST IN)ITC[ES
Policy 10 Protect the Town of Southold's water-dependent uses and promote siting of new water-
dependent uses in suitable locations.
Policy 11
Policy 12
Policy 13
Our proposal is to reconstruct a failing bulkhead. The present condition of the bulkhead is poor and
'unsafe. This property is used by the upland property owners to engage in water dependent activities
such as fishing, swimming and boating. These activities will continue at this site.
Promote sustainable uso of living marine resources in the Town of Southold.
The bulkhead is located landward of the high water mark. During the initial construction there will be
minimal disturbance to the area landward of the bulkhead, Our proposal includes a 10' non turf
buffer behind the bulkhead after construction.
Protect agricultural lands in the Town of Southold.
This proposal has no impact on the agricultural lands in the Town of Southold,
Promote appropriate uso and development of energy and mineral resources.
This proposal has no influence on the development of energy and mineral resources.
