HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/26/2009I~ECEIVED NOV 2 3 2009 Southold Transportation Commission Sou~I~[~ ~'vwn C~r~ October 26, 2009 Meeting Attendance: Chairman Neb Brashich, Heather Lanza, Bob Feger, Tom Fox, Frank Field, Ken Schneider and undersigned. Meeting called to order at 1005 hrs. Motion passed to accept the September, 2009 Meeting minutes. EETCUpd~e Neb reports that he attended a meeting last week and reminded the Transportation Commission members that the next step is for the final report to be passed by the respective Town/Village Boards. Neb advised that the Town Board would be asked to pass a resolution supporting the federal grant for this project, which would not be any cost to the Town. Neb also commented on a draft letter to the MTA requesting modest rail service modifications. (Handout), Supervisor's Requests Crosswalks in Peconic -A letter was read from Supervisor Russell to the Transportation Commission requesting that the commission revisit the request by the stakeholders for a crosswalk on Peconic Lane by the two Town Parks. The Commission determined that if the stakeholders feel that strongly that there is a need for a crosswalk at this location, we would have no objections. Traffic Light Request- Rt. 48 and Southold Town Beach - Neb read a letter requesting a traffic light on County Rt. 48, Southold by the Southold Town Beach along with several pages of signatures on a petition. Neb advised that the Suffolk County Department of Public Works (SCDPW) spent a significant amount of time designing this area of roadway during its recent construction project at this location, and at the time he suggested to the SCDPW of a differently textured crosswalk at this location, however it was not acted on. Neb will forward the request to SCDPW. Planning Board Requests - None. SoutholdY Greenj~ort Bus Shelters Update- Some questions have arisen but were tabled until Jamie Richter attends next month's meeting. Orientation/Interpretive $ignage Project- members responsible for respective hamlets are still working on the signs corrections that will be made at a meeting with RBA sometime in the end of November. Champlin Place Parking- The final version of the restricted parking are was passed at the most recent Town Board meeting. A discussion ensued as to why the Commission's recommendations were not followed by the Town Board. Rt. 48 and Tucker's Lane, Southold- The response by the SCDPW was read in which they agreed to evaluate further the next time the road is resurfaced. Rt. 48 and Long Island Kampgrounds, Greenport- Mr. Hillman from SCDPW will review this request again. Rt. 48 and Cox's Lane, Cutchogue - Work will begin soon and be completed by December, 2009 on turning arrows on the traffic lights. Southwold Housing Project, Southold- Heather reports no new developments. Shizen Project, East Marion- Heather reports no new developments. Valero Service Station, Cutchogue - Heather reports no new developments. Harbes Farm [Vinery Project- Heather reports that the Planning Board has urged the ZBA to start moving along on this project with their work. Cutchogue Heritage Project- Heather reports no new developments. Old Business - None New Business- Heather reports that the Town Board is moving ahead on their Comprehensive Master Plan and has set a goal of finishing the plan by December, 2010. Neb commended Heather for her work on this large project and pushing forward with same. Frank Field advised that there is a new plan for the transportation terminal in Cn'eenport Village at the foot of Third Street. Bob Fager brought the Commission up to speed on the proposed changes and traffic patterns for this project attained from a stakeholders meeting in Greenport Village. This plan would include a new waiting line pattern for the Shelter Island Ferry and bus kiosk for the Hampton Jitney. Next meeting was set for November 23 at 1000 hrs./Meeting adjourned at 1125 hrs.
