Dear Ms. Neville:
Traffic Concerns
Route 25 between Bay Avenue and Factory Avenue
Mattituck
Our Case No. 989190
We have completed our safety investigation to determine if any additional traffic controls would
improve safety and traffic operations at the subject location. Our investigation included an
accident analysis, delay studies, and field observations of the area.
Our accident analysis reviewed the most current three years of data available from the
Department of Motor Vehicles. Delay studies were taken on typical weekdays during morning,
midday and evening peak hours.
These studies have shown that the installation of a traffic signal on Route 25 at Factory
Avenue/Sigsbee Road is appropriate to improve overall safety and traffic operations of the area.
Along with installing this signal, we will be reconfiguring the center turn lane such that there will
be exclusive left turn lanes at Factory Avenue, Sigsbee Road and Marlene Lane. However, we
will be restricting left tums into and from both driveways of the Mattituck Shopping Center onto
Route 25 to reduce conflicts and to encourage motorists' use of the newly installed traffic signal.
We will also move the Route 25 guide signs that are presently located at the intersection of
Sound Avenue and Pacific Street to the intersection of Sound Avenue and Factory Avenue. This
will re-direct traffic wanting to go from County Road 48 to Route 25 to the newly signalized
intersection.
Thank you for your interest in this traffic safety matter.
