Dear Mr. Gurriere:
The Committee is in receipt of your October 28 letter and the, t pervtsor s November
15 response regarding your suggestion that hea%, truck traffic be banned from using
Love l,ane to reach Route 48.
While the Committee discussed your request at its monthly meeting, no action was
taken on November 22. It was decided that the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce be
asked to provide input given their current plm~s for downtown Mattituck. In addition,
the Town, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Transportation,
presently has an Integrated Capacity/Mobility/Safety Transportation Study underway.
The study, conducted by Dunn Engineering Associates of Westhampton Beach, calls
for ways to improve transportation service and efficiency within the Town among
other things. Traffic counts were taken in the fall of 1998 and summer of 1999 on
State Route 25 and County Road 48 as well as 13 town road intersections, including
Love Lane.
Results are currently being analyzed by Dunn Engineering with the preliminary report
on findings and suggested course of action to be presented to the Town in early spring
of 2000. The Town's contract with the NYSDOT calls for two public town meetings
to be held before the final report is ~bmitted. We are tentatively schedurm8 the first
for March and the second for lulylPmgust. There will be an opportunity to present
your suggestion along with the Chamber*s input for due consideration at the first
meeting.
The Committee welcomes your involvement in this important undertaking.

re: Truck Traffic on Love Lane
Dear Ms. Cochran,
It is with great anticipation during this busy election time that we await some
response to my request made to you.
On Saturday 16 October, I queried you about the excessive heavy truck
traffic on Love Lane. We agreed that there was absolutely NO reason for
propane gas trucks, fuel tracks and other heavy, dangerous cargo trucks to be
using Love Lane as a thoroughfare between Main Road and Rt 48. The
consequences of an accident are too severe. In light of recent events
involving fuel trucks in Mattituck, I had hoped to hear from you about
changing the routing of these vehicles by now.
I had suggested that using Mill Lane, 3/4 miles to the east would be a better
alternative. No businesses, one house and virtually no pedestrians. It would
add no travel time to these delivery trucks. Truly, a much safer route for all.
Enclosed please find the copy of the request made on this issue by Barkers in
1995 to Ruth Oliva. The entire Love Lane business community, as well as
the family living on Love Lane would like to see some action on this issue as
soon as possible. Thank you for your prompt response to this matter.
Respectfully,
cc: Ray Jacobs
