REGIONAL DIRECTOR May 17, 2001 STATE OF NEW YORK DEPARTMENT Of TRANSPORTATION VETERANS MEmorial HighwaY HAUPPaUgE, N.Y. 11788 Ms. Elaine McDuffee, Committee Chairman Cutchogue Chamber of Commerce P.O. 9ox 610 Cutchogue, New York 11935 Dear Ms. McDuffee: JOSEPH H. BOaRDMAn COMMISSIONER JUN ! 8 2001 Your April 10, 2001 Submission Cutchogue-New Suffolk Downtown Revitalization Plan Route 25, Cutchogue Our Case No: 01-48P/01-105P This is in reference to the application for a Highway Work Permit to install street lighting, a covered bus shelter and sidewalk on Route 25 in Cutchogue. The subject area is within thc limits of Project Identification Number 0041.99 which is currently scheduled for a February 20, 2003 letting. The installation of the items you are proposing would be removed in order for the State to perform the contract work. Therefore, we suggest that you delay your project until after the State work is completed. You expressed a concern about the approval for the installation of street lighting, which would allow you to purchase the lighting fixtures. We have no objection to the installation of the lighting which must be coordinated with our project. The lighting must be installed without obstructing the shoulder which is used for parking in the village. The lighting must be confined to the sidewalk area and not impact the roadway. The proposed changes in Griffin Ave. may proceed as it will not impact the work that is being performed on State Route 25. The detail which you submitted showing the construction ora raised island which would prohibit left tums onto Route 25 is not acceptable. Vehicles would still be able to make a left turn to eastbound Route 25, which you are trying to eliminate. The possibility of making Griffin a "One Way" street for northbound traffic from east and westbound Route 25 should be considered.
