The Long Island North Shore Heritage Area Management Plan
August 14, 2006
As requested, the Commission reviewed thc subject plan at our July 31 meeting.
The Management Plan reaffirms and underscores the importance of the efforts expanded by thc
Transportation Commission and the Planning Depar~nent over the past few years. Namely, the
Plan's recommendations support thc creation of a North Fork Trail, the designation of a North
Fork Scenic Corridor, the enactment of a Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan and thc initiation
of the recently approved Town Orientation/Interpretive Signage Project. In addition, the North
Fork Promotion Council has supported these efforts through strategic marketing and advertising
to enhance the economy while preserving the environment and quality of life on the North Fork.
It would seem that the Town is well ahead of the rest of the municipalities included in the Long
Island North Shore Heritage Area having undertaken these initiatives early on.
In conclusion, the Commission recommends that you approve the enclosed sample resolution.
