Dear Commission Members,
This correspondence is directed as a reply to the planned resurfacing project for State
Rome 25 involving the Southold Village area. There has been a discussion as to the curb
cuts and planned entrance and exit to the IGA parking lot off of State Route 25, just east
of Young's Avenue, Southold. The Southold Town Police Department is in favor of the
entrance to this parking lot being moved east to relieve the congestion that now exists
when motorists drop off passengers by the entrance to this store and cause a backup of
traffic onto Rt. 25. However, this department would oppose any plans to incorporate an
exit omo Rt.25 at the site of this new entrance, as it would be counterproductive to the
proposed more fluid flow of traffic. As you are aware the current exit is onto Young's
Avenue and then onto Rt.25 where the intersection is governed by a traffic light. This
me~hod of exit is clearly the safest, most efficient exit of traffic from the IGA parking tot.
Sincerely,
Carlisle E. Cochran, Jr
