CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS FOR SOUTHOLD
BACKGROUND:
· Historically, Southotd has received essentially small grants from various somx~
through Human Resources, Community Development, Planning and Transportation
Commission requiring little or no cash buy-in --- mostly in-kind contributions
Town is now embarking on more complicated, time-sensitive, technical as well as
larger grants through the scenic BywaYS Management and the Waterf~nt
Revitalization Programs among others
· These federal/state programs require a 20% buy-in of total project costs in cash or in-
kind
· Town Board has to address theqssue of buy-ins

GRANT REQUIREMENTS:
· Town Board has to determine whether it wishes to be pro-active on capital grants
First grant above has been approved and awaits Town decision regarding $30,000 buy-in
· Proposed undertaking is a building block process resting on the Scenic Byways Management
and Waterfront Revitalization Programs - past successes lead to future programs
· In the future, each grant proposal will be presented to Town Board for concurrence prior to
submission

· A Grant Operations Manager is required given tho complexity of those programs (volunt~r
services are no longer possible) - ini{ially, this could he handled through a consulting contract
with a firm and/or a retired qualified Town resident arid be funded under the first grant above
- ovontually, if proven bonoficial, this could become a pennanont Town position
