THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED BY THE
SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 27, 1985:
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold hereby registers their
support for Home Rule Message of the Brookhaven Town Board entitled, "In
support of an incubator project for high biotechnology at the State University
at Stony Brook", and hereby directs the Town Clerk to send a copy of this
supporting resolution to Governor Marlo M. Cuomo, State Majority Leader Warren
Anderson, Assemblymen Behan, Bianchi, Rappleyea, Fink, Gaffney, Sawicki,
Barraga, Senators LaValle, Orenstein, Lack, the Supervisor of Brookhaven Town,
and all other Suffolk County Town Supervisors.
The Brookhaven Home Rule Message reads as follows:
"WHEREAS, the attraction and encouragement of high technology industry are
primary goals of Brookhaven Town's economic development program, in order to
provide jobs and strengthen and diversify the tax base with high-value-industry
suited to our sensitive environment, and
WHEREAS, the State University of New York at Stony Brook is participating
in a planning effort to create a biotechnology "incubator" facility that would foster
the growth of new companies and attract research and development activities to
the Town, and
WHEREAS, the Stony Brook "incubator" will provide a new means to promote
the high technology development that is central to the Town's long-term economic
development strategy; and
WHEREAS, such an incubator facility could take advantage of the Town's un-
surpassed research resources at Stony Brook and Brookhaven National Laboratory
to compete nationally in this field; and
WHEREAS, other parts of New York State have received commitments of State
support for incubator facilities,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Brookhaven strongly
endorses the University's effort to build an incubator in the Stony Brook area, and
be it further
RESOLVED that the Town urges our State representatives and other officials
to seek support and press for the early completion of this very important facility."

HOME RULE MESSAGE - IN SUPPORT OF
AN INCUBATOR PROJECT FOR HIGH
BIOTECHNOLOGY AT THE STATE UNIVERSITY
AT STONY BROOK
WHEREAS, the attraction and encouragement of high
technology industry are primary goals of Brookhaven Town's economic
development program, in order to provide jobs and strengthen and
diversify the tax base with high-value industry suited to our
sensitive environment; and
WHEREAS, the State University of New York at Stony Brook
is participating in a planning effort to create a biotechnology
"incubator" facility that would foster the growth of new companies

WHEREAS, the Stony Brook "incubator" will provide a new

WHEREAS,
suggested a ban on the
restaurants; and
WHEREAS, the

SALE OF RAW SHELLFISH IN NEW YORK
RESTAURANTS
the New York State Commissioner of Health has
sale of raw shellfish in New York
state in which the contaminated shellfish are
sold may not be the state of origin; and
WHEREAS, the suggested ban will only apply to New Y~rk
restaurants but will cause a great amount of unnecessary harm to the
local shellfish industry; and
WHEREAS, the consumption of contaminated shellfish is a
national problem requiring a national solution;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is the position of
the Town Board of the Town of Brookhaven that the suggested ban
unfairly discriminates against local baymen and should not therefore
be implemented; and be it further
RESOLVED that the State of New York should encourage a
national solution to~event contaminated shellfish from entering
the market.
