TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
RECREATION DEPARTMENT
MONTHLY REPORT:
AUGUST 2009
AMERICAN RED CROSS SWIMMING LESSONS
: Two week sessions were
held at Veteran’s Beach in Mattituck, Nassau Point in Cutchogue, Founders
Landing in Southold and we had originally scheduled the last session at Norman
E. Klipp Park (Gull Pond) in Greenport. Unfortunately, our instructor had to
leave early this year and wasn’t available for the Gull Pond session which was
scheduled to run from August 10 – 21. Our thanks goes out to the various park
districts for once again allowing us the use of their beaches.
FISHERS ISLAND ANNUAL MEETING:
was held this year on Wednesday,
August 5. Numerous topics pertaining specifically to Fishers Island were
discussed. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this meeting.
SPLISH-SPLASH DISCOUNT TICKETS:
were offered to residents for an
outing on Wednesday, August 12. Over 70 people took advantage of these
discounted tickets. The weather was slightly overcast with a chance of showers.
I'm sure everyone had an enjoyable day…there were probably shorter lines due to
the weather.
WORKPLACE VIOLENCE PREVENTION SEMINAR:
was held at the
Southold Town Recreation Center on Wednesday, August 12. The program
highlighted risk factors associated with workplace violence as well as the
prevention of violence. The overall goal is to implement measures to minimize
and prevent violence in the workforce.
DEPARTMENT HEAD MEETING:
took place on Thursday, August 13 at 9:00
a.m. at the meeting room in town hall. Topics covered included: loss control
executive safety emergency evacuation policy and procedures; EAP training at the
Human Services Center; workplace violence training; anti-bias training tape;
contract review by town attorney’s office; referring of public to town offices; and
other topics of interest.
SEASONAL SUMMER STAFF MEETING:
was held at the recreation center
on Friday, August 14. All lifeguards and beach attendants were required to attend
this meeting. Topics covered included being on time, leaving early, beach
cleanliness, lifeguard coverage of the beachfront, texting & reading while on duty,
etc.
FALL 2009 BROCHURE:
The brochure was an insert in the August 13 edition
of The Suffolk Times. Registration began on August 18 for residents and August
25 for non-residents. Additionally, the brochures were brought to all 4 local
libraries, the Human Resource Center in Mattituck, town hall and local
supermarkets. All activities, programs, and bus trips were also listed on our
website. Our thanks goes out to Lloyd Reisenberg for his continued help.
Respectfully Submitted,
