Review of Previous Minutes Minutes from 6/24/09 meeting were reviewed and accepted.
Southold Town Senior Karen MeLaughlin discussed the status of the Town budget, there will
Services Report be no layoffs, however, there is a freeze on personnel and costs. North
Fork Women for Women has received a community empowerment
grant and will be working with STHRC to provide outreach and
education. Discussed recent trip to Fishers Island with Holly, Juliet,
Paul Connor (CEO ELIH) and Colleen Merlo (MI-IA) to assess needs
and develop strategies for Island residents to have access to needed
services.
Jaequeline Martinez: Numbers are peaking in July, there has been an
increase in both home delivered and congregate dining. Dr. Barbara
Prestano will be providing quarterly hearing tests to seniors at the
center. Mattituck Fire Dept. EMT did a first aide and safety
presentation. Qi Gong will now be offered at the center.
Jean DeLorme: There has been an increase in the number of PT
members attending Katinka House.
Mental Health Integration Juliet submitted the CIAIP grant and thanked all who provided support
Grant letters. She has been receiving referrals from a new PCP in Mattituck
Senior Options and Solutions and hopes to encourage the use of screening tools for patients over 65.
Next Wellness Series on 8/7 will be Identification and Treatment of
Depression in Older Adults. The Alzheimer's Assoc is offering a lunch
and learn to providers. Please call Mary Ann Malack-Ragona at 631-
820-8068 to inquire about a presentation for your staff.

Agency Reports
Jay Slotkin, MD: Construction at San Simeon continues with recent
completion of the West Wing. Discussed his interest in a Geriatric ED.
Discussed LIGEC leadership meeting and their goal to have increased
representation form social work. The group discussed that they need to
offer more topics that would be of interest to the profession.
Nancy Gray: Eastern Sun Holistic Health is offering summer specials
on Healing Touch and Reiki Sessions. There will be a Healing Touch
course offered 8/22 and 8/23 for interested professionals. Nancy also
spoke at a recent cancer support group with positive response.
Wayne Miller and Barry Goodman: Are offering CPR training to
seniors. Training will be arranged with STHRC.
Daphne Shuttleworth: Will be having a fundraiser in the fall benefiting
LI Alzheimer's Assoc. There will be an upcoming seminar at Riverhead
Library on Medicare (see flyer)
Julia Graziano: Discussed the success of the Cancer Support group,
they continue to attract new members. Care Management Assoc.
provides private geriatric care management for seniors and their
families.
Carol Ryan: Reverse mortgage options can help seniors use equity
from their home to help pay for care/services. More seniors are using
this option to pay for home renovations so they can remain in their
homes.
Holly Rhodes-Teague: Southaven Park senior summer picnic was held
last week.
Mary Chepak: Provided brochures on agency services.
Bruce Petrucci and Pegi Orsino: Bruce will be on-site at the STHRC
starting 9/09 to d telephone reassurance for the North Fork. They hope
to be able to implement a friendly visiting program next year.

for Long Term Care and Planning. the program.
There will be no meeting held in August. Our next scheduled
meeting will be 9/30/09. Enjoy the rest of the summer!!!
