Dear Members:
Attached are six copies of the application for a variance to construct an en~ to the
Old Point Schoolhouse at the Oysterponds Historical Society on Village Lane in Orient. As
you are aware, this is an historic structure within a designated historic district and the
proposed location of the project was selected to minimize the view from Village Lane.
Additionally, by placing the new entrance and ramp at the rear of the building there will be no
damage to the original fabric of the building since this portion of the building was added when
the building was moved in 1948.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hestitate to contact

Please find the enclosed drawings and sketches bdefiy showing the renovation of Hallock
Building in the Oysterponds Historical Museum in Orient.
The materials included ara:
A copy of a survey map showing Hallock Building, and the proposed ramp drawn on it.

A potential use of hedge covering the new ramp and the existing Bilco (a study view,
landscaping not decided)

Oysterponds Historical Society has needed a librarian's office space with sufficient collection
storage. They decided to adopt the Haliock Building for this required use, which has been used
as a collection exhibit space.
The renovation mainly comprises interior work including storage spaces, an office, and an
accessible bathroom. All the windows and doora, from the extedor view, will be kept as they are,
and from the interior they will be controlled for UV filtration and thermal protection, using either
an opaque inset panel, or interior mount storm window plus UV control film and shade. The only
exterior change is the new ramp for accessibility, which needs to be installed in front of the
building.
Please review the enclosed materials, and kindly advise us which steps we should take to obtain
all approvals. The design phase has been completed and we wish to apply for a Building Permit
Application.
