WARNINGI[ Never use gasoline,gasoline-type ,Lantern fuel, kerosene, charcoal lighter fluid, or similar liquids to start or "freshen up" a fire. Keep all such l~quids well away from the fireplace while in use. WARNING!! Never burn treated wood. The wood may have been treated with materials containing arsenic or other chemicals which can be hazardous to your health, 1. Opeo flue damper fully open. Look up flue to be sure. 2. Push the grate all the way back or at least three inches from the opening of the AIR-A-LATOR. 3. Stack wood carefully so as not to roll out of fireplace opening. Turn ring on AIR-A-LATOR direction damper and pull up to open. Open enough to direct air under grate. On the right side of the AIR-A-LATOR is the volume damper control lever. Push full open. Start fire, but do not overfire. 6. After logs have a good start, adjust direction damper to direct air at front edge of grate and adjust volume damper so that the fire continues to provide beautiful flames. 7. If fire dies down, open volume damper. If fire is burning too hot, close volume damper a little. WAP. NINGIIAshes should be placed in metal container with a tight fitting lid. The closed container of ashes should be placed on a noncombustible floor or on the ground well away from all combustible materials, pending final disposal. If the ashes are disposed of by burial in soil or otherwise locally dispersed, they should be retained in the closed container until all cinders have thoroughly cooled. MAINTENANCE Periodically inspect the AIR-A-LATOR opening and the chamber for the volume control lever for ashes that may have fallen in. Clean if necessary. FIREPLACE REqUIREHENT~ Install and use AIR-A-LATOR, Typo lB, only in masonry fireplaces constructed in accordance with the requirements of t~e standard for chimaeys, fireplaces and vents, NFPA 211. Do not use two AIR-A-LATORS unless the floor area of the fireplace is aC least · 8.?5 square feet. The reason for this, -is that too much air may create excessive temperatures in the flue and surrounding combustibles. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS !. Construct air intake opening 4~~ x 9" in hearth slab, and air passageway under slab to outside. An optional location would be on side wall if floor location is not practical. 2. Locate the opening at the front of the fireplace, as sho~rn below. Just inside the fireplace vail line or at least three inches forward from the log retainer'or grate to prevent over heating of matal and ashes from falling in opening. 3. The air passageway must be constructed of totally non-combustible materials. &. I/here round metal pipe is used to form air passageway in fireplace, it should be at least 6" in diameter, or 32 square inches. Air passageway can be formed with brick and angled in any direction. 5. Position AIR-A-LATOR centered over opening before laying firebrick, with the direction damper opening toward the rear of the fireplace. Set it so that the AIR-A-LATOR top is .25 inches above firebrick. 6. A screened louver is to be installed on the outside and should have a minimum open area of 32 square inches. 7.
