May 17, 2009 Meeting
Attendance: Chairman Neb Brashich, Jamie Richter, Margaret Brown, Frank Fields, Jim Baker,
Tom Fox, Heather Lanza
Meeting called to order at 10:05 a.m.
A motion to approve the March 23 and April 20 Meeting Minutes was made by Richter, seconded
by Baker, motion passed,
MTA Review with Nicholas Mazzaferro
Nicholas Mazzaferro was introduced by Richter as a former employee with the MTA that now is
employed as a eonsullant with private industry who works on transit-related projects. Brashich
informed Mr. Mazzaferro of the pending East End Transportation Council (EETC) work on the
VOLPE Report on a transit system for the East End and the options proposed. Mr. Mazzafarro
provided some background of the rail systems on Long Island, answered questions from
Commission members and commented on the above proposals. Mr. Ma~Tafen'o was thanked by
Brashieh for his comments at the meeting.
EETC Update
The meeting date listed on the meeting agenda was corrected to "May 13" Meeting Update.
Brashieh reported that the Volpo Report has to go back to the Town Boards and be polled for
their opinions on the two options.
Supervisor's Requests Review
The Town Board requested the Commission to look at other options for the intersection
of Griffin Avenue and Rt. 25 in CUtehogue Village. Brashich will recommend that the
NYS DOT offer a virtual simulation of how traffic would flow at this intersection, with
all options, to be presented to the public with feedback solicited.
Brashich reports that he attended a meeting witha consultant on the TEP Program and
read off a list of proposals being submitted. Brashich asked the Commission if they
would like to submit a proposal under this program, and after a discussion, decided not to
submit a proposal at this time as it may dilute the Town's overall proposal.
Current Transportation/ssues- Updates:
Some of the new Bus Shelters have been installed in the hamlets.
Brashieh has received the Phase II contract for the Orientation/Interpretive Signage
RBA, which needs some clarifications made on same.
The IVYS RL 25 LIRR Overpass Project roadwork in Greenport should be completed in
August, with the completed project finishing later in the Fall.
Lanza reports new plans for the Mattituck 7-11 store Project have been submitted to
Planning, which includes expansion to the front of thc building, new landscaping and a
diagram of truck movement on the property.
Lanza reports that Planning Department is still waiting for new information to be
submitted on the $outhwoM Housing Project.
Lanza reports Planning Department is still waiting for a revised Draft Environmehtal
Impact Statement to be submitted on the SMzen Project in East Marion.
Lanza corrected the location of the Valero Service Station Project to be in Cutehogue.
This is on for a June l~ work session.
Lanza reports that the Harbes Farm R/inery Project will widen roads and improve access
to their property as required.
Lanza reports nothing new on the Cutchogue Heritage Project.
Richter reports that the Crossing for Students at 7-11, Greenport has been given to the
I~SDOT for their reeo~ru-aendafion of placement on Rt. 25. Flatley reiterated that there
is already a manned crosswalk for student from GHS to cross Rt. 25 in front of the
school.
Old Business and New Business
Richter reported that he notified his contact in the NYSDOT regarding the large signs installed by
Bridge Lane, Cutehogne on State Rt. 25 and was informed to prepare a letter to the DOT with
concerns about the signs so they may address same. Bmshieh will prepare letter.
