HomeMy WebLinkAboutVisual Simulation RenderingsVISUAL SIMULATION RENDERINGS SOUTHWOLD MANOR 56655 MAIN ROAD HAMLET OF SOUTHOLD, TOWN OF SOUTHOLD SUFFOLK COUNTY Prepared for: East End Resources, LLC 666 Old Country Road Garden City, New York 11530 Prepared by: Michael Berardesco Studios 54 Hoagland Road Blairstown, New Jersey 07825 MICHAEL BERARDESCO STUDIOS ARCHITECTURAL RENDERINGS Computer-Generated Photographic Simulations PRESENTATIONS A photographic simulation presentation consists of one or more "Before" photographs of an existing site and computer generated "After" images of the proposed development intended for that site superimposed on the original photographs. The first step in the process of creating photographic simulations is to photograph the site from various locations that will best illustrate the post-construction condition at the site and/or the potential impact of the new development on the surrounding community. The accuracy of the photographic simulations is dependent on known reference points ("markers")_being_visible in the existing conditions photographs. These reference points can be utility poles, existing structures, signs or any other visible features that will allow the superimposed image to be placed and scaled accurately on the existing conditions photograph. If there are insufficient existing reference points, additional points may need to be added. These can be poles, balloons floated at known heights, cranes or even people standing at specific locations. For the Southwold project, both existing site elements and "markers", located and staked by licensed surveyors, JM Land Surveying, were utilized to assure accuracy. The initial site photography was completed over two days on June 6/7, 2008. On July 16, 2008, the site was revisited for additional site photography work as the scope of work was expanded to include additional properties on either side of the project and properties across the street from the project to better visualize the new development in context with the existing streetscape. Five view points were selected for the photo simulations=After the view selection was completed, each photograph was saved as a digital file. Next, using a 3D rendering program called Lightwave, a scale 3D model was created from Site Plan documentation prepared and supplied by the engineering firm of Robinson, Muller and Schiavone Engineers, P.C. and architect, Mark Michaels. This computer model was scaled in actual dimensions (i.e. 1' on the actual building is entered as 1' in the computer). Included in this model were scaled "markers" that replicate the existing "markers" on the original photographs and/or the location of the temporary "markers" placed when the original photographs were taken. When this model was complete, it was loaded into a module of the Lightwave program that allows the user to "float" the 3D model over the digital file of the original photograph. When the "markers" match, the "camera" location in the 3D program and the camera location for the photographs are the same and the model is properly scaled. The computer model was then rendered at the same resolution as the original photograph. The rendered image and the existing site photograph were next brought together in PhotoShop, a digital photographic editing program. Using the existing site elements and/or the temporary "markers," the rendered image was carefully located on the original photograph. Shading, color and contrast were adjusted to match the photograph. Existing site elements and reference markers were removed and proposed landscaping and other new site details were added to complete the photographic simulation. Two streetscape photographic montages were also created for this project. To create these images, multiple photos were taken along both sides of Main Road. These photos were "stitched" together to illustrate the character and scale of the existing neighborhood and the visual impact of the Southwold project within that context.
