the Mattituck, Park District held in the office of the Veteran’s park building at
11280 Picnic Bay Blvd, Mattituck, New York with Jerry Zuhoski, Chairman, Tom
McCaffery, Nicholas Deegan present together with John Cushman, Treasurer,
Betsy Perkins Secretary, Edward Grohoski, Maintenance, Russ Williamson,
Volunteer worker of the Park District, Gail Faircloth, and Ed Gatto and Joe Pfaff
of Mattituck Soccer Club.
Chairman Zuhoski called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m and introduced
Betsy Perkins as the Secretary and Nicholas Deegan as Commissioner.
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery and seconded by Jerry Zuhoski, and
carried, the minutes of the December 20, 2007 meeting of the Commissioners
were approved as presented via email.
The following items of the organizational meeting were conducted:
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery and seconded by Nick Deegan and
carried, Jerry Zuhoski was appointed as Chairman for a one-year term.
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery and seconded by Nick Deegan and
carried, Betsy Perkins was appointed as Secretary for a one-year term.
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery and seconded by Nick Deegan and
carried, The Suffolk Times was named as the office paper.
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery and seconded by Nick Deegan and
carried, North Fork Bank and MBIA were named as the financial institutions.
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery and seconded by Nick Deegan and
carried, Wickham, Bressler Gordon and Geasa, PC, were named as attorneys
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery and seconded by Nick Deegan and
carried, 48.5 cents per mile is awarded to Gail Faircloth for travel to and from the
beaches
The remaining items of the organizational meeting, namely the salaries, will
be discussed at the Executive Session following the regular meeting.
Tom McCaffery reported the following:

The Aldrich Lane lighting project is out for bids and the deadline is the next
th
month’s meeting, February 14. A price quote was received from REVCO for
$117,000.00.
Four test holes were dug.
Need to contact NYS DEC regarding a permit for bluff restoration at Bailey
Beach. Suffolk County Soil & Water department will put together a planting plan.
Asked the secretary to contact DEC to find out exactly what was needed to
complete an application and obtain a permit for the bluff restoration.
Spoke with Polly Weigand of the County; The Scouts are looking for
projects, plantings.
Confirmed that Lauren Standish mailed out Thank yous.
Nick Deegan made the following comments:
Asked if the Boy Scouts access regarding the trail could be limited to one
spot.
Ed Grohoski commented that he is always chasing kids, people out of the
sand balls from camping, etc.
Need deterrent plantings.
Tom McCaffery further commented that in order to complete the
bathrooms need a test hole. Mark McDonald to do.
Russ Williamson made the following comments:
An architect was needed to calculate the required rings. Also need a plot
plan for the Board of Health and stated John Ehlers completed the prior
survey work. Tom McCaffery asked Russ Williamson to contact Ehlers.
Questioned about the status of the air conditioning for the building.
Thought the cost would be approximately $10,000.00. Trane is the best; will run
electrical, pipes, thermostats etc.

Stated the 2 old building should be covered with T 111 to make it look
better. Russ Williamson might donate the time. Buildings are an eyesore.
Nick Deegan agreed with Russ and further commented that the roof would
need to be replaced
Tom McCaffery asked about the status of the meeting with Marc Alessi.
And asking the other Town and County officials to contribute to the cost of the
Aldrich Lane lighting. The requested should be formalized in writing by the
secretary and signed by the Chairman and all of the commissioners.
John Cushman stated that the Town has $100,000.00 apportioned for the
MPD. Asked about the status of it. The secretary to follow up with the Town to
confirm the apportionment.
Jerry Zuhoski stated that Grant money was being sought. Nick Deegan to
work on.
Russ Williamson asked about the jetties and the groins. Attorney Gail
Wickham has that information.
Nick Deegan asked the status of the Permits. Attorney Gail Wickham had
indicated that they were rejected.
Ed Grohoski, Maintenance made his report, which is attached.
May need to close up part of Love Lane as the concrete slab at the entrance
is cracked. Bulkhead needs to be refilled. Questioned whether a permit is needed
to “dress-up area?” Ed to contact Town Trustee Jill Doherty to inspect and advise.
Ray Nine had mentioned that any repairs would need DEC approval.
Ed Gatto reported that it would cost approximately $2,000.00 a day to rent
the detyne machine, but could probably get 5 fields done in that time. They will
start at Strawberry Fields and get as much done as can in 8 hours. Possibly the
cost can be split with Cutchogue Park District. Need to inform them of specific
amount.
Jerry Zuhoski asked maybe a turf expert could be called to determine if the
fields are being watered too much.

Repair of the Tennis Courts on Bay Avenue, approximately $18,000.00 to do
all.
Russ Williamson suggested getting a good industrial patch.
Tom McCaffery suggested a good floating interlocking tile system of a
plastic material, which is good for all surfaces.
Russ Williamson suggested getting a sample to try out.
Jerry Zuhoski asked if a price was obtained for an industrial vacuum. Ed
Grohoski reported that a stainless steel we/dry was $169.00 at Home Depot. A
plastic wet/dry (40 gal. Was $149.00.
Need a good vacuum for the rugs at the lodge. Suggestion was made to look
at Granger.
Jerry Zuhoski asked if the MPD was still using Ed Grohoski’s credit card.
Yes, it was still being used. Should get own.
Tom McCaffery asked Russ Williamson about an industrial floor, which was
made of non-slip epoxy as used in the new vineyard, Duck Walk North’s
maintenance area. Very expensive. At least $2,000.000 for a normal sized garage.
Get estimate.
Tom McCaffery asked Ed Grohoski about the sand bucket. New one will cost
$560.00 and get the old one to Baker to repair.
On a motion made by Tom McCaffery seconded by Nick Deegan and carried,
MPD to purchase a new sand bucket and the old one is to go to Baker for repair.
It was asked if MPD had an account with Granger? Ed Grohoski to call and
inquire.
The north Fork Soccer may just do camps.
Treasurer John Cushman submitted bills for payment and on a motion made
by Tom McCaffery seconded by Nick Deegan and carried, John Cushman to pay the
submitted bills.

There being no further business to come before the commissioners, a motion
was made by Jerry Zuhoski seconded by Nick Deegan and carried to adjourn the
meeting.
Jerry Zuhoski then reopened the meeting on a question from Gail as to the
status of the renting the building. Jerry Zuhoski stated the building should be
ready by Memorial Day.
The meeting was then adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
