Dear Mr. And Ms. Spielman:
The Board of Trustees inspected the above referenced property on July 13, 2005 as per
your request received June 13, 2005, regarding your concern about erosion. The Board
recommends that you trim trees and plants that are shading the intertidal area, in order to
encourage the growth of native wetland vegetation, that will help to hold together the
shoreline.
In addition it would help the shoreline to plant native wetland species.
The Office's Environmental Technician or one of the Trustees will meet you on site if
you need further explanation. Comell Cooperative Extension in Southold at Cedar Beach
may be able to help as well.
Please contact this office if we can be of further assistance.
Very Truly Yours,
President, Board of Trustees

Dear Ms. Standish,
We would like to apply for a pre-application inspection on
our property at 520 Private Rd. #12 (Windy Pt. Rd.) in
Southold , in reference to bulkheading and/or some other
method to save our property from falling into the canal.
Since buying the property eight years ago we have lost about
a foot of ground in some places and trees that were formally
on solid ground are now either hanging into the canal or
are being undermined and will soon be. We are now in a
situation that something needs to be done. All our neighbors
have bulkheading, and although we know we might not be able
to bulkhead the whole perimeter, perhaps there are other
methods to save the property that we would be allowed tO do
and still not harm the ecological balance of the area. We
would greatly appreciate your suggestions and help in this
matter.
Enclosed please find the $50 fee, a copy of the survey,
and some pictures. Also, on the survey there is documented
some existing bulkheading. One of the pictures shows that
area. We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for
you time.
Sincerely, ~ '
