The design loads used in our analysis were 45 pounds per square foot (psf) ground snow load and 120 mph wind loads and pre-engineered building dead loads. Based on our analysis, the Roof Structural System of the premises, consisting of 2" by 6" hip roof rafters or 2" by 10" roof rafters ~ 16" spacing, are adequate to support the proposed Solar Panel System and the NY State mandated design loads. The Solar Panel System must be attached to the existing rafters .(which support the roof shingles and sheathing) by sealed 3/8" diameter by 2" long lag bolts, which shall transfer the solar panel system wind and dead load components directly to the existing timber roof frame of the residence and to the interior or exterior load bearing walls and eventually to the foundation and foundation anchoring system.
