And most, if not all, of the other companies (that make "alternative" or"plastic-h-pe" deck lumber) are small, regional outfits that may or may not be around to honor guarantees. And most competitors can't show you a successful project that's been around for man-, mam years. TREX R has been around for more than a decade and can point to several successful. long term, high profile prof s around the USA. To our knowledge TREX R has ahway s stood by the6product. replacing defective material at no cost and has always put th customer first. TREX R is also the only public company- (to our knoidedge)devoted solely to "plastic-type" or"alternative" deck lumber. Wan to know if TREX R is financiall stable'? Look up the they're fmanoals--the stock symbol is TWP. And TREX R (again, to our knowledge)i the only Company- with Natiomwide (& Canadian) distribution. We think, as o most others, that TREX R is really- neat stuff--expensive though. This was not my wishes and it resulted in a summons(#4122) and subsequent July 25'h court appearance. The Southold policeman also cited me for placing stones at the water's edge and a"walkway"within my approved path through the marsh. The landscaper has been notified and I am confident that the unfortunate clearing will not occur again. As for the"walkway",we were told by members of the Board of Trustees back in 2005 that we could put down along the approved path wood chips, straw, etc. to keep the path dry. Last year I discovered a seaso al r 101-0 material called Trek(See Packet A)that is used by State parks both in wooded and sandy areas like the beach. I put it down last year for the first time and was immediately impressed. As my photos#1 and#2 illustrate, it is less invasive than most materials and allows vegetation to grow between the slats. We rolled it up and stored it for the winter. I am applying for permission to maintain this seasonal material. I remind the Trustees that it was my dock that enabled Southold to promote the new type of platform for individuals seeking a similar dock/platform configuration(See Photo#3). My decision to use this Trek walkway was in-line with past goals of allowing light and vegetation to still grow. As for the stones along part of my waterfront,I have watched for two years with horror how quickly my shoreline has been eroding away. Please compare photos#4 and#5 with Photos#6 and#7. You can see how much shoreline has eroded in just two years with the platform posts now being dangerously close to falling into the water. I observed a neighbor near my house putting in the same rocks last year(See Photo#8). 1 apologize for not consulting the Board of Trustees, but found the same rocks a few months ago and put them around the platform(See Photo#9). 1 am,therefore, applying for permission to maintain this row of rocks to slow down the erosion around my dock area. I am formally requesting a hearing and site visit on July 16, 2008 to discuss the above two issues and to see if I can work with the Town on a reasonable and proper course of action. Nothing I have done is permanent and can be removed if that is the final decision of the Trustees.
