Finnegan, Esq., Town Attorney Date: August 15, 2008 Subject: Leave Time As I advised you at the last Department Head meeting, please let this Memo confirm that all employees who work an average of twenty or more hours per week are permitted to take up to three hours of paid leave in any twelve month period for the purpose of donating blood. This leave time shall not be charged against any other accruals. Additionally, an employee is entitled to take a leave of absence "for a sufficient period of time, not to exceed four hours on an annual basis" to undertake screenings for breast or prostate cancer. This leave shall be paid leave, and not charged against any leave to which the employee is entitled. Travel time is included, however, leave beyond the four hours is charged to the employee, and you may request the employee provide documentation of the screening. Another new law concerns the requirement to provide break times for nursing mothers. If you need further information on this, please let me know. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the above. PAF/Ik cc: Members of the Town Board
