hereby apply to THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS far a SPECIAL EXCEPTION in accordance
with the ZONING ORDINANCE ARTICLE IV SECTION 408
SUBSECTION B
THE SPECIAL EXCEPTION IS REQUESTED BECAUSE: I wish to erect'-and maintain
a wall sign on the face of the store building which I have recently
rented on the S/S !lain St next to the Bohack store, Southold.
There are no other signs on the outside of the building; the
front of the store is aproximately 16ft wide. The 12 ft permitted for a
store of this width would not permit the desired lettering with good
clear reatlable letters. a special exception is requested to lengthen the
sign to 16ft a,A. but keeping within the 24 SQ ft; of area permitted a storE
wall sign for this width building. ~this is one of a series of stores
having a co~mon face line on the S/S Main St, where advertizin~: signs
are hard to read. It is necessary to use all available space to insert
the wording proposed _" Wallace Furniture"- in good reAdable letters.
The ~roposed sign in my opinion will in no way deface or detract
or harm the ares, or devalue the adjoining properties.

We are calling your attention to a paragraph in our
let~er to you of August 21, 19,9 in which we statedl "We
understand that you have in your possession a copy ot the
Southold Town BUilding Zone Ordinance Which we particularly
direct your attention to Section 1012 ot Article X relating
to Jlenaltles and involving the owner, general agent and con-
tractor ot a building or premises When a violation ot the
Ord~mance has taken place."
We would also like to direct your attention to Article
IV, Section ~08, .Subsection D relating to the con.truction
and ereaUonat signe in the "D" Business District. Mr.
Joseph P. Wallace ot the Wallace Furniture Store, Southold
was required to obtain a special exception tor permission
to retain the sign which you constructed tor him in violation
ot the Ordinance. The cost of a special exception is $1,.00
for publ1cation,and various other inconveniences occurred to
Mr. Wallace which might have been avoided it the sign had
beeII constructed bearing in mind the legal limitation. apply-
ing to a 81gn in the liB" Business District.
