HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-09/05/1950Meeting of September ~ 19~0 The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E, Klipp at Greenport~ on Tuesday~ Sept. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry~ Tuthill~ Albertson and Clark; Town Superintendent of Heghwa~N Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The Board sat at once as a committee on audiZtto examine claims against the Town~ concluding the audit work at 2:00 P.M. The Minute~ of the two previous meetings were read and were duly approved as read. A communication was read from Eloise Bowden requesting a further leave of absence from her duties in the Assessors 0ffice~ ............. Moved by Justice Clark~ seconded by Albertson: Resolved: ~hat Eloise Bowden be granted a further leave of absence without compensation from her duties in the Southold Assessors' Office~ from September l~ 1950~ to October 14, 19~0~ both dates inclusive. Unanhmously adopted. Moved by Justice Clark~ seconded by Justice ~uth~ll: Resolved: That the regular monthly meeting of th~s Board be held at the Supervisors Office at Greenport~ on Tuesday~ Sept. 19~ 19~O~ at 1:30 P.M. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Clark~ seconded by Justice Albertson: Resolved: That the Supervisor be and hereby is authorized to request the Long Island Lighting Company to install two (2) 2~O C.P. a~rial street lights in the traffic circle at the intersection of the Main Road and North Road~ at Greenport. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Terry~ seconded by Justice Clark: Resolved: That General Bills in the sum of $1342,50; Lighting District Bills in the sum of $133.33; Non-reimbursable Welfare Bills in the sum of $19.26; Fishers, Island Ferry District ~ills Account #~ in the sum of $1~3.38: Fishers Island Ferry Distric~ Bills Account #2 in the s~m of $i6,929.69; be and the same are hereby ordered paid. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Albertson~ seconded by Justice Terry: Resolved; That Henry F. Santacroee be and hereby is appointed temporary Police Patrolman (Constable) for the Town of Southold~ from September 9~ 19~O~ to October 20~ 19~O~ both dates inclusive~ providing he accepts such appointment in writing. Be It Further Resolved: That the compensation for suck appointment be fixed at $6.~0 per day. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Albertson~ seconded by Justice Terry: Resolved: That the Police Report for the month of August be accepted by the Town Bosrd and placed on file. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Clark~ seconded by Justice Aibertson: Resolved: That the Town Board does hereby approve the letter agreement between the Fishers Island Ferry District and E. S. Wilco~ in the operation of the vessel Col. John E. Baxter in the sum of $15~6~0.03~ from AuguSt i~ to August 31~ !9~0~ both dates inc!us~ve. Unanimously adopted. 282 MOved by Justice Clark~ seconded by Justice Terry: R~esolved: ~YHEREAS~ the Tm~nBoard of the Town of Southold has heretofore authorized and empowered the Supervisor of the Town of Southold to negotiate for the purchase of a boat for the FISHERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT~ pv~suant to the Provisions of Chapter 699 of the Laws of New York~ 19~7, as amended~ an ~iEB~AS~ the Commissioners of the said FISHERS iSLAND FERRY D~STRICT have agreed upon and enzered into a contract for the purchase 0£ a certain passenger and auto ferry I~-STIC iSLE from the ERIE ISLES FERRY COMPAi~- at a cost of $94~000.00~ and ~ERE~S~ it is the considered opinion of a majority of the members of the Town Board of the Town of Southold that the purchase of such ferry is in the best interests of the said FISh~RS iSLAND FERRY DiSTRICT~ NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED~ that the acts of the Commissioners of the FISHERS iSLAND FERRY COMPANY entering into said contract with the ERiE ISLESDFE:R~Y COMPANY be and they hereby are approved~ and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the cost of said ferry be paid from the proceeds of town obliEations to be issued and sold in the ma~aer provide8 by the Local Finance Law~ and tha2 the Town Board of the Town of Southold shall borrow the sum $100~000.00 and issue Town obl~gations therefor~ s&id amount to b~ assessed upon the property liable to taxation in the said FISHERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT'~ and levied and collected in the same manner as Town charges therein as provided by Lsw.
