The Eouthold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp
at Greenport~ on Tnes.~ Aug. 28~ 19~l. The meeting was called to o~der
at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp;~ JusticesTuthill~
Terry~ Albertson and Clark; Town Superintendent of Highways Price; TOwn
Attorney ~erry and Town Clerk Booth.
Th~ minutes of the previous meeting w~e read and duly approved as read.
Mrs Caroline Kern appeared before the Town Board requ.~ting the Board
to ~iew her property with the idea of making some. r~sti~on caused by
the erosion Which ha~s: taken place on her property since the new road
and Jockey Creek Brid~e was built.
The ~i~ard stated them would view the property after Otto W. Van T~Yl,C. E.
had ~iaced markers on the boundary line.
Moved by Justice Albert~on; Seconded by Justice Clark:
Resolved: That the regular monthly audit meetingTof thi~ Board be held
at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport on ues.~ ~ept. ll~ 19~l,
at 1:30 P.M.
Unanimously adopted.
A letter was read from Joseph ~awiski tending h~s resignation as Town
Constable.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
Resolved: That the resignation of Joseph Sawiski Constable of the Town
of Southold $olice Department~ be accepted by the Town Board and placed
on file.
Unanimously adopted.
Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconde~ by Justice Albertson:
Resolved: That Charles Jacob~ Jackson avenue, New Suffolk~ New York~ be
and hereby is appointed Police Patrolman (Constable) of the Town of
Southold for a Probationary period of six months, followi~ng the date
that the appointment becomes effective~ and be it further
Resolved: That Charles Jacob~ will serve in the capacity of Police
Patrolman (Constable) of the Town of °outhold at the~pleasure of the
Town Board, and be it further
Resolved: That the compensation during the probationary period be fixed
at Seven Dollars ($7.00) per day, Payable in regular biweekly payments~
and be it further
Resolved: That this probationary period take effect on September 8~ 19~l.

Moved by. Justice Albertson; Seconded by Justice Terry:
Resolved. That Edward S. Szoztka~ Main Road,Route 25~ Peconic, New York,
be and Hereby is appointed Police Patrolman (Constable) of the Town of
Southold' for a probationary period of six months following the date that
the appointment becomes effective~ and be it further
Resolved: That Edward S. Szoztka will serve in the capacity of Police
Patrolman (Constable) of the Town of Southold at the pleasure of the
Town Board~ and be it further
Resolved: That the compensation during the probationary period be fixed
at Seven Dollars ($7.00) per day, ~ayable in regular bi-weekly payEents~
and be it further
Resolved: That this probationary period take effect on September 8~ 1951o
Unanimously adopted.
The Board viewed a proposed highway at Mattituck~ property of Robert
H. Preston, A. Kenneth Monsell and Robert and Helen Muir.
Moved by Justice Albert~on: seconded by.Justice Tuthill:
Resolved: That the Town Board will accept the proposed highway when a
strip ~O feet in width is plowed and harrowed and put in a suitable
condition.

Moved by Supt. of Highways ~rice; seconded by Justice Clark:
Whereas trucks from within and without the Town of Southold have been
removing sand and gravel for commercial use from the Cutchogue sand-pit
and Whereas~ this sand-pit is becoming depleted to such an extent tha~ it
will be necessary in the near future to purchase more property to provide
sand and gravel for the repair and maintenance of Town Highways within the
TOWn.

Therefore Be It Resolved:That all persons are hereby strictly forbidden
removing sand and gravel from this sand-pit except for use on Public High-
ways.
Unanimously adopted.
