HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-06/19/1951Meeting of Ju~e 19, 1951 The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at Greenport.on Tues., June I9, 1951. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.N. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp, Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson, Clark and Edwards; Town Superintendent of High- ways Price; T0wnAttorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and were duly approved as read. Moved ~y Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Clark: Resolved: That the regular monthly audit meeting of th~s Board be held at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport, On Tues., July 10, 1951, at 1:30 P.M. Unanimously aa0pted. A petition was presented to the Town Board claiming to represent more than 51% of the taxable property and prop- erty owners of the territory west of the Village of Greenport, requesting the formation of a lighting district, bounded as follo~S: North by Front Street, Eastby-Distric~ Line, South by Oak Grove Beach ~eal~y Corporation , West by Ninth Street. WHEREAS, Sub-division 5a of Chapter 620 of The Laws of~ew York,1951, provides for the acquisition bT the Town Board of the Town of Southold, on behalf of the isherSlIsland Ferry~District, of an airport o~ landing field situated on. Fishers Island after .a public hearing as provided therein, and WHEREAS, Sub-division 5b of Chapter 620 of ~ws of New York, 1951, provides that when any Such airpol ~r Landing field shall have been so acquired, the Town~ Board may delegate jurisdiction~control and supervision or. such airport or landing field to the Board of Ferry District Commissioners, and ~HEREAS~ the Town Board of the Town of Southoldhas temporarily acquired by lease fro~ the Secretary of theErmy a certain air field ( known as "Elizabeth Air Field" ) includ- ing h~ugar buildlng No.25~, located at Fort H.G.Wvight~ FiSherS Island, New York~ at an a~nual rental of $~2, per year~ and~upon conditionthat the premises be maintained in ~ood repair and that the Government be indemuified against i~ss arising from iajuries to p~rsonS or property arising out of the maintenance and operation of such airport~ and WEEREAS~ it is the intention of the TownBoard to hold a public hearing in order to determine whether Such acquisition is in the public interest~ it is hereby 0~DERED~ that a meeting of the Town Board.of~.said Town of Southold,'shall be held at the Fishers Island School, Fishers Island~ in said Town of Southold; Suffolk C~uty~ New York, on t~e 2~th day of July, 1951, at two o'Clock in the afternoon of that day (Daylight Saving the p~rpose of determining whether the acquisition ~irport is ~in the public interest and to hear all persons. · nt~rested in the subject thereof, concerning the ~me and for s~ch other action on the part of~said Town Bea~d~ with relation to said acquisition as may Be required 5Yi law or proper in the premises. Noved by Justice Albe~t§6n;~c~ded.by Justice Tuthill: In the Matter of the Claim of Estate of FRANK SZ~WINSKI against the Town of Southold. WRERF~S~ the Estate of Frank Szawinski by it's attorney, John A. O'Keefe, Esq., has duly filed a claim against the Town of South~ld for damages allegedly as a result of activities at the Town dump adjacent to the farm of the estate of said decedent w~ere refuse and ~apers were carried by the wind from the d~mp to the estate farm and where ignited paper~ were blown from the dump to thee farm re- sulting in the destruction of a patch of rye and a patch of hay, and WHEREAS~ the sai~d Estate of Frank ~z~wi~ski has duly filed its clai~ in the sum of Fifty ($50.OO)~ Dollars against the Town of Southold~ and WHEREAS, in the considered opinion of the members of the Town Board of the Town of Southold, said claim is a valid an d proper claim against the Town of Southold, N~OW THEREFORE, BE IT RES!OLVED~ that the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized and directed to pay to the Estate of Frank S~awinski the sum of Fifty ($50.O0~ Dollars in payment of any a~d a~ll claims against the Town of Southold by virtu~ of said damage. unanimously adopted.
