Wentworth Horton at Greenport~ on~Wednesday~ August 27? 1947~ The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Horton$ Justices Terry~ Hawkins~ Klipp and Tuthill~ Town °uperlntendent of Highways~ Prices Town Attorney~ Terry and Town Clerk~ Booth, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as read. The hearing on the proposed ordinance prohibiting parking motor vehicles on the westerly side of Village Lane in the Hamlet of Orient~ was duly opened at 2:00 P,M. As ~ere were no interesbed persons having ap- peared before the Board to speak either for or against the ordinance the hearing was formally closed at 2:30 P.M. Moved by Justice Terry~ seconded by Justice Tuthii!: Resolved: '±~hat the following Ordinance prohibiting parking an Village Lane~ in the Hamlet of Orient be adopted: SECTION l~-Definitions: "Motor Vehi~'cle~ shall include all vehicles propelled by any power other than muscular power~ except motor cycles traction engines~road rollers~ fir~ and police vehicles~ tractors ~ used exclusively ~or agricultural p~rposes~ tractor cranes~ power shovels~ road building machines~ snow plows~ road sweepers~ and spread- ers~ well drillers~ elecSric trucks with small wheels used in factories~ warehouses an 8 railroad stations and operated princiyally on private proPerty and such vehicles as run only upon rails or tracks. "Park"~ "parking" or "Parked" shaZ1 mean the stopping of a motor ~ehicle or motor cycle upon any public highway and leaving such motor vehicle or motor cycle ~uattended by a oerson capable of operating it~ for a period longer than necessary ~o load or -~load passengers or freight~" SECTION 2~- The parking of motor vehicles on the westerly side of Village Lane~ in the Hamlet of 0rient~ froma point on the westerly sid~ thereof at the intersection of the southerly side of Skippers Lane with the westerly side of Village Lane and running northerly alone the said westerly side of Village Lane for a distance of~310 feet~ is hereby prohibited. SECTION 3~- Any person violating any provision of th~s orm~nanc~' ~ may upon conviction be pu_~msnem for the first offense by a fine not exceed- lng five aolla_~s~ and for the second or subsequent offense by a fine of not less than ten dollars and not more ~than twenty-five dollars. Distler of Greenport, be and is hereby appointed a ~pecial Constable to direct ~raffic at the Southold School crossing at Oak Lawn Ave, and Main Road~ at a salary of ~.OO per day~ for each school day~ to serve at the pleasure of the Board. Unanimously adopted° Moved 'by Justice Ktipp$ seconded by Justice Terry: Resolved: That the Town Of Southold purchase the property on the east side of Sound Road in Greenport~ adjourining Long island Sound for th~ sum of $4~8OO. for the purpose of widening and leveling So~ud Road~ and for useof the dirt as a fill as much as the Board deems it advisable~which is much needed on the highways~ and that the Supervisor be authorized to sign with James H~ Zimmer and sister for 100 the purchase of same~ to pay 10% or as much as is necessary on said contract~ and %,~en title is searched to pay the balance of purchase price and accept a deed conveying said real property to the Town of Southold. Unanimously ~opted. Moved by Justice Tuthii!$ seconded by Justice Klipp: Resolved: ~hat the Chief of Police be and is hereby authoriz~ed to purchase four rain-coats to be used by the To%~ Police. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Jusiice Klipp; seconded by Justice Hawkins: Resolved: 'ihat the regular monthly audit meeting of this Bbard be held on Thurs day~ Sept. 4~ 19k7~ at 1:30 P.M, Unanimously adopted. Went- worth Horton~ at Greenport~ on Thursday~ September 4~ 19k7. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following pTesentt Supervisor Horton~ Justices Terry~ Hawkins~ Klipp and Tuthill~ Town S~perintendent of H~ghways~ Price and To'~n Clerk Booth. The Board sat at once as a Committee on Audit to examine claims against ~ha ~own~ concluding the audit at 2:00 P.M. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as read. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Hawkins: Resolved: ~hat General Bills in the amount cz $±~9 5.5~+ and non- reimbursable Welfare Bills in the amount of $9.45. be_and the same are hereby ordered paid. Unanimously adopted° ~At 2::~0 PoM~ the Board went to view the road at West Greenport ex- tending from the Main Road ~to the Say~p~perty of Edna Brown~ which Clarence Roach and others had previously requested the Board to take over and work as a public highway. The Board then view the road'on Henry Smith's property at Southold~ situated on Long Creek~ and also went to Cutchogue to inspect the Town Dump. No action was taken~ and the consideration of above matters was laid on the table ~_util the next meeting.
