HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-03/28/1947Meeting of March 28, 19~7 The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor S.~ Wentworth Horton at Greenport, on Friday, March 28~ 19~7. The meeting was called to order at l:~O P.M~ with the following present: Supervisor Horton; Justices Terry,.Hawkins, Klipp and Tuthill; Town Superintendent of Highways, Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk, Booth. Theheari~g on the proposed ordinance prohibiting the parking of automohileSon the~easterly side of~ Tillage Lane in Orient, was ~duly~opened at 2:00 Edwin H. King appeased before the board wishing to change the proposed ordinance to prohibiting the parking of automobiles on the west side of Village Lane. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Tuthill: Resolved: That this hearing be carried over ~til the next meet- ing. Unanimously adopted. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as read. Moved by Justice Klipp;. seconded by Justice Terryo: Whereas~ Bids were submitted for payment for Southold Town High- way bonds at the office of the Supervisor March 28, 1957. Be It Resolved: That Town of Southold Highway Bonds in the amount of $12,O00. be sold to the MattitUck National Bank and Trust to bear interest at the rate of one and S/lC (1.S%) per Cent~m per .ann~. Annimously adopted. Otis Burr, newly elected Mayor of the Village of~Greenport, ap- peared befor~ the Board to see if some arrangements could be nade with the Town Bo~.rd ~o maintain the streets in the Village of Greenport. After a lengthy discussion the Board decided to lay the matter on the table ,3ntil the next meeting. Moved by JustiCe Klipp; seconded by Justice Terry: ReSolved: That the Superintendent of Highways be and hereby is instructed to lower the north end of the Sound Road at Greenport to eliminate asma~y.~'~ ~ as possible o.f the steps leading to the so,nd beach. Unanimously adopted. Moved byJustice Tuthilt; seconded bM Justice Terry: Resolved: That the Town Clerk be an~ hereby is instructed to request the Long Island Lighting Co. to install underground wires in place of the existing wires on Park AvenUe and Lake 3Road, at Mattituck~ in the Mattituck Lighting District. At present these roads are not public highways, but will be taken over as such by the T~wn Board as soon as the necessary papers are signed. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Hawkins; seconded by Justice Tuthill: Resolved: That the schedule of the police, presented by the Chief of Poli~e be accepted. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Klipp$ seconded by Justice Tuthill: Whereas, Congress has authorized and directed the Board of Eng- ineers, U.S. Army to cause to investigate the practicability of a proposed project to construct a barrier from Fort Tyler to the mainland of Gardiners Island to take the place of the sand beach which formed a former protective barrier, and which has been com- pletely sewpt away~ And, Whereas~ This Zown Board of the Town of Southold believes that this project is in the public interest and that the pro- tection afforded by such a proposed breakwater is very necessary in the interest of navigation~ shore front property, and oyster Now~ Therefore, be it resolved that we endorse this proposed pro- Ject and hope that it may receive the approval which we feel it merits.~ Unanimously adopted. CERTIFICATE OF SUPERVISOR Pursuant to Resolution of Town Board of Town of Southold N.Y., Adopted March 28th, 1957. The undersigned does herebycertify that purauant to the powers- delegated to him as Supervisor of the Town of Southold, N.Y., in and by a resolution of the Town Board of such Town adopted on March 28~ 19~7, he has this day: e Fixed the date of the serial bonds authorized in' such .resolution as of the first, day of April, 1957. Fixed the date.upon which such bonds shall become due~ as follows: No. I on April l, 1958; No. 2 on April'l.~ 1959; No. 3 on April l, 1950; and No. ~ on April l, 1951. Fixed the interest rate on such bonds at 1.~ per centum per annum, to be paid semi-annually on the 1st day of October and April in each year during the life of the bonds . The undersigned does further certify that such bonds were.this day sold to The Mattituck National Bank and Trust Company at private sale. '~Dated April 1,~1947. M~ved hy Justice ~Hawkins; S.
