HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/22/1998Southold Transportation Committee Southold Town Hall June 22, 1998, 8:00 AM Present Neboysha Brashich, Glynnis Berry, Victor Brown, Frank Field, George Hubbard, Bernie Jacobson, David Moore, Valerie Scopaz, Melissa Spiro. Kayaks: Neb reported that is a proposal in the works from the County Parks Commission to use $25,000. from the ISTEA (I) funds for improvements at Peconic Dunes which will tie in ultimately with bike trails and kayak access. Vision Forums: there was a brief review of the comments from Vision II (see report) and the expectation that the final Vision Forum will be in late August or early September. Scenic Byways: David Fosser(sp.?) from Albany, DOT, did a visual inspection of the Scenic Byways areas, including some statements regarding tree trimming along the "scenic" roadways. With scenic designation by Town some benefits may come: *underwrite cost of study to explore feasability of under- ground utilities along Causeway. *ISTEA 21 Funds could allow leveraging of Town funds for open space to Sx bond value. *Funds for rebuilding Tourist Center west of Greenport Ferry Conference: Valerie reported on the June 5th conference regarding future ferry services in the N.Y. Metro. area.They talked about land use, port facilities, govt role(s),etc. First steps toward some coordination of effort betty, N.Y. and CT are taking place. County+DOT+Metro Transportation Planning Council to meet in August re: East End issues. Hopefully better communication will create less misunderstanding. Moore's Pond Trail Loop: Gpt village reed grant to clean up pond area in Moore's Woods. Village and Town will work together on Moore's Woods trail. Signs: To no one's suprise, the signs in the recently-paved section of Rte 25 were put up without an overall plan. Glynnis Berry has a major contribution to remedy that. Traffic Flow: Sag Harbor's success at working with DOT, may spill over to Shelter Island and also to the intersection of Rte 25 and Rte 48 in Greenport. Has to be tied in with future Peconic Landing traffic plan. Fort Corchaug: trail from New Suffolk Ave uncertain at this time. Wickham Dike walking trail awaiting Wickham cousins' conference. June 22, 1998 page 2 2% Tax for Open Space: Properties under consideration for inclusion in this new program trust be designated by the appropriate committee NOW. If not on list, they cannot be included for three more years. Expanded criteria for inclusion. Yard Sales: Signs in violation and sales in violation. Code enforcement appears weak on weekends when violations most common. Bicycle Safety: Town reed $1900. for bike safety program. Looking to Bike Stop and Country Time Cycies for possible programs.
