L'eplattenier, guests Hannah Masterson and Pam Thiele, SEEDS Project Coordinator
SE Pam Thiele, the SEEDS Project Coordinator, reported that there will be a Stakeholders meeting
tonight. The ~ta is becoming more coherent. Southampton will set up a Transportation Advisory Commission.
All development projects will now be required to have a "traffic data study" to address possible traffic problems.
On September 20, SEEDS, the Stakeholders, and the EETC SEEDS Steering Committee will hold a meeting to
which this Commission is invited.
Seaview Trails: The route maps need to be placed in the ttailhead sign frames. Also, Tom Fox suggested that the
maps be put on the Town website in a PDF file that could be down loaded by anyone.
CVS Pharroacv Site Plan Certification: Ms. Hannah Masterson of Marlene Lane in Mattituck attended our
meeting to present a letter and petition addressed W Jeri Woodhouse, Planning Board Chairperson requesting a
revised site plan for the proposed CV S Pharmacy. The petitioners are concerned about the routing of truck traffic
onto the CVS property because of the pressure it will place on Marlene Lane. She brought a map of the area and
discussed alternate routing. After she departed the Commission discussed the situation and was sympathetic to
her concerns. However, the proposal has already had several well attended public hearings and of all the possible
site plan scenarios have been studied carefully. The Commission is in agreement with the Planning Board's
process of public input and supports their final approval.
RMB Medical Arts Building Project: Bruno Simon, Town Site Planner, has talked with the developers and they
are revising the plan. When it is ready they will bring it to us for review.
Resurfacine Project: The project is proceeding with no serious problems.
9rient Causeway Project: A town project manager has not yet been found. This will be a relatively long project
and will need the Commission's support.
Petition -Make Tuckers Lane Rieht Tum Only: Neb met with Ms. Helinski about her petition and she has agreed
to submit only the names of those who are actual residents of the area affected. Since this request involves a
County road we will send the petition to the Counry with a letter suggesting that lane markings should be changed
to conform with plans that were already prepared.
NYS Route 25 Tmffic/Cutchoeue - Marland Henderson E-maiL• The police have placed a "smart trailer" to check
the speed in Cutchogue. There does not seem to be a serious problem. Capt. FlaUey will contact Ms. Henderson.
MTA/L[RR - Prooosed Closine of Ronkonkoma/Greenuort Line: By a Supreme Court ruling the LIRR is a
Railroad not a subway system. Therefore, the Surface Transportation Board must approve removal or the
discontinued use of train tracks. The MTA cannot do it on its own. However the MTA owns all the property at
the North Ferry Dock, the Railr~d Museum, attd the parking lot. We should go on record stating that we are
opposed to the proposed closing of the Greenport/Ronkonkomalme. Pam Thiele will let the Mayors and
Supervisors know what we are doing.
Five Towns Rural Transit Committee: The committee is planning a field trip to Cape Cod to study how their
Regional Transit Authority works and how it came into being. Because the geography and demographics of Cape
Cod and the East End of Long Island are similar, this is a potentially useful model.
Old Business: Victor met with Mike Domino and Joe Ludwig regarding trees that must be removed and
discussed how to replace them.
The next meeting will be Monday, September 27, 2004, at 10 AM, Southold Town Hall.
Respectfully submitted, Margaret H. Brown
