CV amw y ite Pl n 'fi a ion: CVS has received conditional approval for their project from the
Planning Boazd. The State DOT is revisiting the curb cut issue. No decision has been made yet.
Site Pl n for anl~y glen o merci I . n Pr The Commission discussed the possible site plans for this new
commercial project in Cutchogue. The Commission recommends that there be an entrance and an exit as separate
roadways into the commercial center. Landscaping will screen the parking area in front.
As an aside, it was suggested that we need an updated tree list with more native species.
RMB M i al A c B ril ine ProieM: There has been no movement on this proposal.
SEEDS Lipdate: There will be a meeting on Wednesday (next) to finalize what will be presented at the public
meetings across the East End.
Seaview Trals: We need to develop more permanent maps to be placed in the trail head sign boxes.
Orient Causeway Project: There was an article in the November 11, 2004 issue of the Suffolk Times reporting
that the Town Board has approved a feasibility study to ascertain the cost of burying the LIPA lines on the
causeway. Tom Wickham has received a letter of support for the causeway project with before and after pictures.
A project manager is needed, probably Jamie Richter, as well as a part time cortsultant, preferably an engrneer
(with no ties to LIPA), who would be paid $10,000 and who would prepare an RFP for a consulting fimt. This
consulting firm would do the actual feasibility study at a cost of $130,000 supplied by the DOT grarrt. The Town
Board must authorize the Supervisor to work with the firm and pass a resolution accepting the grant and accepting
all conditions. The Town Attorney is preparing this resolution. Neb will prepare a job description.
Valerie knows of a person who is interested but may not have enough time. She wondered if there should
be a group of interested "stakeholders" who would be advocates for the project. They would be an advisory
committee while the Commission would be the steering committee. Tom would like us to present our plan to the
Town Board. At our next meeting we will work on a job description and discuss how we would work with an
advisory group.
T ffic ienal at CR48 and Peconic Lane: Neb received a copy of a letter to Legislator Michael Caraociolo
regarding a traffic signal at CR48 and Peconic Lane. Commissioner Charles J. Bartha stated in the letter dated
November 11, 2004 that a traffic signal is justified at this location and anficipated that it would be operational by
summer 2005.
-_ong Island Non-Motori T n~portton Smdv: Supervisor Horton received a letter from David Glass of the
NYDOT regarding the existing and proposed bicycle corridors (on and off road) in the Town of Southold. The
study, sponsored by the NYSDOT and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council, has been working to
identify a Long Island bicycle network. An accompanying map represents the study team's "short list" of feasible
corridors in Southold and is also available on [heir website (july;//www.walkbikeli.com/technical docs). The
study team is also developing five pilot projects intended to enhance pedestrian and bicycle accommodation and
safety. They include: A safe routes to school program; a public education program; an intermodal program with
Long Island Bus to install bicycle racks on some buses; a transit access program involving the LIRR; and a
pedestrian safety program. Our Commission was invited to review the map and pilot projects and offer
suggestions or wmments.
Five Towns Rural Transit Cornmittee: Margazet reported that the committee will make a presentation at the
December East End Supervisors and Mayors meeting.
Route 25 Resurfacing Project: Supervisor Horton has asked Neb to write a letter [o DOT to ask for more dense
landscaping around the new sump near Griffing Street in Cutchogue. He also wants a detailed summary of our
experience with both the NYSDOT and the County DPW.
New Business: Supervisor Horton has asked that a stop sign be installed on Elijah's Lane at Gabriella Court.
The Mattituck Hamlet Study is considering ways to make the waterfront (Mattituck Inlet) more pedestrian
friendly. One possibility would be to narrow Route 48 down to two lanes and not become four lanes until after
Wickham Avenue.
The next meeting will be Monday, January 10, 2005, at 10 AM, Southold Town Hall.
Respectfully submitted, Margaret H. Brown
