Meeting off December 31, 1946 The Southoid Town Board met az the office of 2~pervisar So Wentworth ~ortem at Greenport, on Tuesday, Dece~aher 31, 1946. The meeting was called tc order at i:30 P.M. with ~he following present: Supervisor Horton; Justices Terry, ~lawki~s, Klipp and Tuthili; Town Superin- tendent of High.ways, Price; Town Attorney, Terry and Town 01erk, Booth. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duty approved as read. The hear zng on the matter of purchasing machinery for the Town Highway Dept. was duly opened at 2:00 P.M. There was a large delegation of farmers present who complained that their taxes were too high. There were lengthy discussions on several itenm pertaining ta taxes. Supt. of Highways Price asked f~r their cooperation in keeping the highway budget down. He produced ~ictures of highways that had been damaged by farm machinery, he then read an ordinance that Brookhaven Town had adooted and asked the farmers if they would go along with him should Southold Town adopt such an ordinance. Two of the farmers suggested that the Town Board request the Long island Railroad to install signal lights at several of the railroad c~ossings throughout the Town.
